A restored victorian banking hall, the great room at the Merchant offers an impressive and opulent dining experience. The food is great and i would recommend any US traveller like myself to give it a go as you will not find the likes of it...More

Food rather pretentious but well cooked. Service rather slow and staff not well trained although willing. Worth going to see the ceiling and decor.

Good points: pastries were really lovely, macarons really really really lovely, staff took out a birthday dessert for my mum which was so sweet! And takeaway boxes lovely. Poor points: expensive for what you get, decor and atmosphere a bit lacking, didn't take out coats,...More

Afternoon tea at the The Merchant is a lovely wee treat. Pretty expensive at around £30 per person, but not something you do every day. The food is lovely and all in bite sized pieces - sandwiches, scones, cake and wee treats. Too much for...More
