This bright, colourful restaurant on the York Road in Birmingham is a vibrant venue for fun family nights out and catch-ups with friends. The dining room at Sylhet Spice has citrus yellow walls and purple chairs, reflecting the exotic fusion of flavours from the kitchen which serves authentic Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani cuisine. All the food at Sylhet Spice is prepared without artificial flavours or additives, and signature dishes include the Persian Chicken Biryani served with basmati rice and vegetable curry; the Sylhety Jhinga Masala – king prawns cooked in the tandoor and served with yoghurt; and the Lamb Tikka Masala cooked with fresh cream and nuts. Sylhet Spice also serves a range of classic European dishes.

What's not to like

When going to any restaurant, you want, great food, service and a clean environment, this place has all 3. We were served by 3 different members of staff, each one polite and friendly, when we placed our order for the mains, we were told, we'd chosen things that take a little longer to prepare and the mains would take 35-40 minutes, which we were fine with but nice we were informed of it. When the food arrived as they were dishes neither of us had had before, the waiter explained what they were and their origins. Couldn't fault any of it.

Excellent service and staff

Visited here just before Christmas. Service was fast and to perfection. Staff are all friendly and courteous and make you feel part of the family taking extra care to wish you well as you leave and open doors. The small touches makes the difference and this place certainly meets that standard. Place ws full which is reflective of their popularity and great service. Definitely recommend this place as a great restaurant to eat at withing Kings heath.

A warm welcome and fabulous food

Delighted to have discovered Sylhet Spice, which was perfect for our pre-gig meal. Service was good and staff friendly; exemplified by Ali and owner Sharif. All 5 of our party delighted with their food, which was clearly freshly prepared using quality herbs and spices. Cost was very reasonable. Highly recommended,

Ordered online before the restaurant was open and chose 7.15 for delivery. Called around 8 as it had not arrived. Told it would be with us shortly. Rang again around 8.30. Told the same again and that delay was because they only had one chef. It finally arrived 2 hours late by which time no one was in the mood to eat it. Should have cancelled order but was continually told it would be with us shortly and didn’t want the hassle of trying to get my money back. This is the second time this has happened, the first was pre lockdown. We thought without the restaurant being open the takeaway service would be much better. How wrong were we. We have used this restaurant many times over the years. We will NEVER do so again. If I could zero stars I would.

Great curry - shame about delivery service,

Love this curry house if you are eating in, always a good service and the food is excellent. Ordered a takeaway delivery at 6:30 pm, phoned at 8:00 pm 8:40 and again at 9:00 pm, each time I was told it was just leaving the restaurant or it was on its way. Unfortunately meal didn’t arrive until 9:20 - this is not good enough. Would of cancelled but Pre-paid online so too much hassle, just put off ever ordering again. Being Saturday night is not an excuse!!!!

Ordered takeaway on a Saturday night,told 20 minutes to half-hour. Was not delivered an hour later. Phoned up and was told was not advised 20 minutes to half-hour, but was lying. Very bad service ended up cancelling the order. Manager was not helpful. Would not go back there

Never disappoints.

Sylhet never disappoints. We were greeted warmly and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Our favourite starters of mussels were delicious. Mains of garlic seabass and telepia were mouthwateringly yummy. Sides of mushrooms pilau rice and flatbread were perfect. All washed down with a cheeky little French Merlot. Thank you.

We visited last night for an early Mothers day Treat. The place is bright and clean with a lovely atmosphere, the staff are very friendly. The food is excellent both in taste and presentation and portions sizes are good. Am planning a trip back for my birthday

Terrible delivery service

Waited over an hour & a half for our delivery, didn’t turn up until 10:30pm. Awful service. Won’t be going here again that’s for sure. Restaurants shouldn’t accept the order if they can’t deliver a good service.

I visited this restaurant for the first time this week - all Covid-19 procedures in place and plenty of space around the tables (booths). I had a vegetable jalfrezi and have to say it's one of the best I've ever tasted. The rice was lovely, as was the naan bread. Enjoyed it so much I've booked a table for next week!

Took ages to arrive! Ordered it at 8pm and it didn’t come until, 11pm! Called numerous of times and every time they said it was out for delivery. The order came and it was the wrong order. Phoned back again and still wrong order this was 10:30pm. Had to wait another 30/45 mins for our actual order to arrive.

Amazing food!

In the area for a gig, and stepped in here for an evening meal. There was plenty of food, we ordered a starter and main with sides and naan. Very reasonably priced, and ghe food was absolutely amszing. The staff were attentive and friendly too! A great place to eat!

Went here on a Sunday Evening, food was excellent, reasonable price and staff attentive. Had starters and mains, my partner loved hers too, there's a few good restaurants in Kings Heath, this is up there with the best IMHO. Would recommend

Excellent vegetarian curry!

We had a superb dinner here, making the most of their vegetarian options for a tasty and moderately spicy Indian - style meal. We started with the Shobzi platter for two, (samosas, onion bhajis, paneer etc) which was lightly spiced and very tasty. We also shared our main courses - Shobzi Bihariee, a North Indian vegetarian dish with capsicum, mushrooms, cauliflower, potatoes, coriander - a delicious combination! The other main was a Paneer Sag Jalfrazi - with a little extra spice. We had a plain naan and a specialty spicy naan with cheese (which we found a little heavy). A barossa shiraz complemented the food. Staff and service were excellent.

Really tasty Bengali food

Ordered food as a take away they got two curries mixed up rang them and they corrected the mistake and delivered it! Foods really good only issue was my fish biran got soggy by the time it got home
