I booked a reunion with some friends for a catch up. As everyone’s dotted around the city, a central location suited the meal. The Taj were more than accommodating. They accepted the booking despite how busy they are at last minutes notice. When we arrived they were so busy we had to wait a while for our table so the manager offered us a complimentary drink whilst we waited which I thought was really nice. Upon being seated we were served promptly and our orders were spot on. The food tasted so good that some of us ordered a few more dishes during the meal which arrived before our nan breads got cold. Literally everything we tried was delicious except the Lamb Boonha which was exceptional. The place has a lively vibrant feel with flowing drinks and conversation, we stayed even longer than we intended catching up for hours what felt like much shorter. With a prime location south side of the city with ample free street parking and private parking not a minutes walk away, some of us went out for a few more drinks and carried the night on in a local bar and then casino round the corner. Can honestly say the management and staff are like gold dust here, kept us laughing whilst delivering excellent customer services throughout our meal. Will definitely be coming back with the better half soon to impress her with this Gem of a place one evening (14th of Feb). Can’t wait!

I took my wife for a Belated Romantic Valentine meal last night and what a meal it was.We were not let down the service was first class the starters were full of taste and spices and well blended. Our main meal was so taste full and the Lentil side dish was brillant and to finish the meal and night the Brandy Coffee could not be beaten

I visited here with a friend I’ve known since school and our partners. Everything was first class from start to finish.
Greeted with a lovely smile at the door and shown to a very comfy table with plenty of space and clear social distancing in place.
Our waiter was exceptional! Warm, friendly and genuine. Nothing was too much trouble (we asked to tweak our jalfrezi) and he was more than happy to accommodate.
The food itself was fresh, tasty and bursting with flavour. I always say you can tell a great Indian by the poppadums and the ones here were incredible. Light, crispy and served with a good array of chutneys.
We all had mixed kebab starters. Was great to try a little bit of everything and there was plenty to eat all served with a fresh salad.
The curries were incredible! We had a real variety from lamb pasanda (sweet, mild and creamy) to a delicious Harrey Mirch Masala (a spicy fiery dish with plenty of garlic and chilli) which was all packed full of flavour.
We tried 3 different bottles of red wine and all of these were great value from £15 to £19 each :-)
The whole bill including various other sides we devoured came to just over £130 for the 4 of us. Amazing value for city centre and considering how much we ate and drunk.
Highly recommend that when in Birmingham you visit the Taj Mahal - great location too just behind the back of new st station. We will all be coming back.

We had a very good experience in here. The waiter was very friendly and also give recommendations on dishes. My friend and I both took his recommendation of the mushroom rice with taj Mahal special and the dishes went great together. There was a decent atmosphere in the curry house. It's not cheap but fair and I would say the price reflects the quality of food and service. It's also a great location to get to new street station. I would return if in Birmingham

Was recommended to me after a less than spectacular curry elsewhere. So glad I went, extremely friendly service, delicious food, the chicken tikka naga was well tasty, cool cobra and give the Indian wine a try, delicious. Will be back!

This is the second time this year my wife & I have visited this excellent restaurant, & this time we brought 4 others so our recommendation reputations were on the line.
We needn't have worried though, as the food was once again excellent, with fantastic service from all the waiters, & the owner was once again a brilliant host.
This was a pre-theatre early-evening meal, but we booked our table with a view to having plenty of time between eating & getting to the venue, so nothing was rushed at all.
The meals ordered were 3 x garlic chicken tikka bhunas, 1 x desi butter chicken, 1 x chicken pasanda & 1 x chicken Nepali dansak, with varying rice sides & breads. Great price for 6 of us too, including 6 pints of draught beer & 2 bottles of branded white wine.
Everyone, bar none, were very happy with their meal, the setting & the value.
Again, I can't recommend this place highly enough. We will definitely be back!

Used to enjoy coming to this Indian restaurant but on the last two occasions the food for main courses was served cold. Last night we sent it back and when it was returned, the serving dish was hot but the contents still cold so it went back again for a second reheat. Even then it wasn't exactly piping hot and of course the accompanying rice had gone cold by then. I noted other diners had the same problem as well. The staff did not acknowledge any problem and there was certainly no reduction in the price when the bill was tendered. Oh and we had to wait an hour before the food was served in the first place!

Spent one night in birmingham decided we wanted a curry, but restaurants around us all appeared to do just ‘street food’. Found this place hidden down a small road called ‘theatre approach’ its close to the ‘bullring’ & train station, but you really have to look for it as its brilliant.
Food was amazing, if you want just a normal & traditional curry then go to this place. Im glad we booked a table before turning up as for a monday night it was 75% full at 7pm when we arrived.
Garlic Naan bread was amazing, beers were nice & cold!. Good gap between poppadums & main. no complaints at all. A very welcoming owner & staff. if like us your in birmingham for one night & are looking for a curry then this is the place for you!

I was genuinely shocked by how awful this place was. Our table had our meals bought out with some people getting theirs 35 minutes after others had eaten. The food was grim, cold and hair in it (they told me it was mine, it was about 4 inches longer than mine!) My friend had fish that was coated in so much dry chilli powder that it was inedible. There was not enough staff, we had prebooked, so they knew how many they would be serving. This cost a fortune and was an horrendous experience. For anyone thinking of trying this place for the famous Birmingham curry experience - please think again and go elsewhere.

We ate here and were not disappointed. The food was of an excellent standard and the staff were pleasant and engaged. The choice was extensive and when we asked for a fish that wasn't mentioned on the menu, this was created without any problem. If we lived here we would certainly patronise this restaurant

An away trip to Birmingham is never complete without a regular visit to the Best Curry house in the City.
A lovely ambience, great service and spectacular food makes every visit a great experience.
Both Al and Abdul in front of house offer the most welcoming of service with nothing too much trouble.
Place this restaurant on your Bucket List

I came here on New Year’s Eve with my partner. The restaurant was very busy but the staff as always were first class - warm, friendly, attentive and genuine care for their customers.
The food was exceptional as ever. Highly recommend the mixed kebab for a starter and the Desi butter chicken the best curry we’ve ever tasted. It was creamy but with a real kick of heat - the perfect combination.
The lovely manager took the time to speak to us at the end of the night and it was great to see how much our visit meant to him.
Each time I’m in Birmingham this is the only place I will eat a curry and I’m already looking for an excuse to come back again :-)

We found this by default and have been to many Indian restaurants across the Uk, but this was special. The service was exceptional. We didn’t see lamb chops on the menu but my partner was looking forward to some, so he asked and they did a special meal just for him. We shared everything in the end - not wanting to miss out on all the flavours. I think this was the best Indian we have been to for a long time and would recommend it, definitely going back if we are back in Birmingham, in fact it’s an excuse to return

We were a group of 16 who had pre-booked. Table prepared and ready. Initial drinks arrived promptly. There was quite a long delay after ordering for mains to arrive.
The majority of table were happy with meal but my meal was really poor. Side dish was forgotten until prompted. My Dhansak contained pineapple - which in over 30 years of eating Dhansak I have never before experienced. I was told by management that this is always how it is served. However the menu makes no reference to pineapple.
They did offer to cook me an alternative dish but at this stage, when my companions were finishing their meal there seemed no point.
Would I eat here again? No way. I would miss out on team meal to eat somewhere with better standards.
