We stayed at the Swan for two nights mid week and dined the first evening in the Bistro. The food was delicious. However the ambience in the Bistro was non existent. Whoever decided that moulded plastic chairs would look nice in a beautiful medieval hotel with enormous character was sadly mistaken. Sadly the fire could not be lit as they... More

Thank you for taking the time to share your review on Trip Advisor. Thank you for your comments, which I can respond to as follows. We recently had an incident with the chimney in the Brasserie, so we're now awaiting a log burner to be installed. We dined here in a Sunday evening Very nice ambience ,open fires in bar area. Food was very good , my husband really enjoyed fish pie My only comment is that due to our late dining , there were only 3 couples there , some background music would have added to the atmosphere Will visit again

OK, I have a confession to make. I did not pick this much vaunted and flaunted venue and would normally have turned around in the Reception and walked out. I mean, a Reception in a pub. But I forget it is in fact a Hotel, no it is a Spa, and much more as the blurbs on the menus, cocktail... More

For a lunchtime meal the Brasserie is perfect, being a bit less formal than the main dining room but bright, airey and comfy. The menu has some very good choices and the food is superb. All in all great place to eat with family or friends.

Although we were staying at The Swan we decided to eat in the brasserie instead of the restaurant. The ribeye steak melted in your mouth and the meal was piping hot and delicious. Although it hasn't got the character of the main restaurant, it was a nice little area to have a delicious meal and we then took our coffee... More

Although we enjoyed our meal we felt the service was rather poor and the children we were with were looked on as being somewhat of a nuisance.

Food was nice, well presented and reasonably priced but the ambience was lacking although it is a beautiful old building. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Parking a bit inconvenient across the road and round the corner.

Having heard great things about the swan, we decided to try the restaurant but couldn't be fitted in, so ate in the brasserie. It was a little like an M&S cafe, with wonky tables and blue plastic chairs. The decor in the rest of the hotel was lovely, with squashy sofas and not too crowded. We were greeted warmly at... More

Somebody described eating here as, "like being in a M&S Cafe;" and the green plastic chairs in the brasserie certainly give that imoression. While the waitress was lovely, it seemed the rest of the machine let her down: drinks were late (came after the starter had been served) and dessert (after asking for it sharpish, as our taxi was due)... There aren't many places to eat in Lavenham on a Sunday evening (most of the restaurants seem to offer the standard Sunday Roast lunch) but the Brasserie has a decent menu for Sunday evening. We had their burger which was really good, with trimmings and excellent fries. The service was good and overall I would recommend it.
