Triple cooked chips are a personal favourite but all food is excellent - great presentation and something to suit every taste.

My wife and I have visited this cafe on numerous occasions and had always enjoyed the experience. Today was a very different story. The staff were as attentive as always but the food was a disgrace. My wife ordered a beef and horseradish sandwich, in which the beef was dry and discoloured, whilst my pulled pork bap was just awful,... More

Dear Phillip E, thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback on your experience with us. I'm very sorry that your experience wasn't up to our usual high standards. I can assure you that we have a very strict date labeling and shelf life process, to prevent anything out of date from being used in our food.... More

Much quieter here for a coffee than the middle of Wells, walk through the archway to the Bishop's Palace and you are here. I was really taken by their milk jugs, worth a visit for an afternoon tea or coffee just to use them. They did have soup & home made sandwiches for sale as well. The prices were probably... More

Dear Wendyonthesouthcoast, thank you for taking the time to write us a lovely review! I'm very glad you like our milk jugs...we're rather proud of them! All of the profits from the cafe go back into the palace and grounds, so anything bought in the cafe helps to keep the palace standing! We do hope that you will come back... More

I visited yesterday. The staff were aloof and unfriendly. The portion size was very small and the food overpriced. The staff aimlessly walked round trying to match tables to orders and getting it wrong. The kids pasta meal was terrible. All in all, my first visit will be my last. My advice? Stick to being a tea shop. You're cafe... More

Dear Rosemary C, I'm very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience during your visit with us. With regards to the wandering around - when customers do not tell us a correct table number, or area that they are sitting in, it can make it very difficult to find the correct people, and result in the appearance of... We stopped for lunch and ordered a scone with cream and jam and pot of tea x 2. Cost £9.40. It was wet but not raining and quite warm so they provide cushions for chairs outside. The service was prompt and the food a good standard we are looking forward to another trip to Wells to visit this place again.

Visited here as we always do as the grounds are magnificent. Thought we would try the coffee shop but with dubious trepidation after visiting here before we thought it may have improved but sadly not i ordered a cappuccino an early grey tea and went for the cakes as the pastries muffins and scones were all uncovered and th3 flies... Dear Adulcabella, Thank you for taking the time to bring these issues to our attention. It is our policy not to pass drinks over the counter, which is why we bring any hot drinks to the table. However, I will have a look into whether this policy is being implemented at all times. All of the staff members at The... More

Dear gayleforce2006, I’m very sorry that you did not enjoy your experience to the fullest. Unfortunately background noises are out of our control, and are part of the day to day activity in a cafe. On a nice day you can always come and sit outside, it is much quieter and more peaceful there, and you can enjoy the lovely... More

The Bishops Table is in the grounds of the Bishop's Palace, and serves light meals as well as a good range of home made cakes. If the weather's nice you can sit outside and enjoy an unequalled view. Prices are acceptable (you are getting the best views in town) and the cakes seemed fresh. the only odd thing was the... More

Dear MKMapman, thank you for taking the time to write us such a fantastic review! Sat outside in the sunshine eating a marvellous chocolate fudge cake. Good variety of food, cake and drinks to choose from. Whilst eating the bells were being rung which was a beautiful bonus to a delightful afternoon

I had a pot of tea here last Friday. The tea was good but the crockery wasn't! BIG and heavy mug. I am old-fashioned I suppose but afternoon tea should be in a china cup, with a saucer. If they have a pretty pattern so much the better. The cakes looked good but I did not try so I cannot... More
