I visited this restaurant tonight with a friend. It was a rare mid week treat and we were delighted that we could receive the government 50% discount. I have been to Cafe Saffron many times and cannot fault the quality of food, the prices and the variety of options on the menu. The restaurant is clean and quirky and a lot if effort had been made to ensure social distancing was observed. My only concern was how the manager, Abdul, was speaking to a younger waiter. On several occasions we felt embarrassed as rude commands were yelled across the restaurant at him. It got to the point where diners were exchanging looks as everyone felt very uncomfortable. I was about to make a complaint but my friend asked me not to as she felt it may have ruined our evening. Instead, we reassured the young waiter that he was doing a great job and we did not like the way he was being treated. Overall, we had a lovely evening but it was a shame that it was dampened by staff behaviour.

Went on a quiet Sunday night - we were the only table in, which meant the four waiters were circling us like vultures - service was good tho, just felt bit too observed. Food was delicious, although I would tone down the menu as I visited the restaurant for the food and not pics of celebrities. Overall had a pleasant experience and might think of visiting again.

Had a takeaway ordered on foodhub lovely food piping hot but took an hour to arrive and charged £1.50 for one poppadom. Rang the restaurant who confirmed they were £1.50 each. Put me off ordering again, there are plenty of other nice restaurants in Shrewsbury that aren’t so greedy.

Thank you for taking your time to write a review without doing any homework. Other takeaways locally are charging 0.80p per popadom, so for 2 popadoms you will pay £1.60 now add the dips at 0.70p per dip mint mango and onion £2.10 = for two popadoms your paying £3.70. 2 popadoms at Cafe Saffron including the dips are £3.00 crazy isnt it. trick of the eyes charge less for the popadoms but then you get stung on the dips lol :) many thanks

I have NEVER been so disgusted with a restaurant in my life. A group of 8 of us arrived at 11:00 on a Saturday night as 3 members of our group fancied a curry. There were two other tables in the restaurant so they were hardly full?! The other 5 of us had eaten earlier in the night so ordered drinks and just fancies naan breads, poppadoms and starters. After ordering our drinks which were extortionate £3.75 for a lemonade!!!!!!!! I’ve paid less in 5* restaurants. Anyway, after we sipped our drinks we were asked to order another main or to leave. Our three members of the group who ordered a main were asked to stay but the others had to leave. This is absolutely disgusting service, you would have surely made more money by selling the little picky foods then kicking us out and us not ever returning to your restaurant again. You need to sort your terrible service as looking at previous reviews it was not just our party who received your rude customer service. I may just add that the party that remained very much enjoyed your food and said it was a lovely curry. Such a shame that your service let the rest of us down.

Awful! We ordered from cafe saffron as it’s supposed to be one of the best curry houses in Shrewsbury, the prices were quite high but we thought it would be worth it for a great curry! 2 curries, one naan bread, rice and onion bhajees cost £30! The order turned up and the portions were tiny! Indians usually provide large portions but these were awful and to top it off the food wasn’t even hot. A massive waste of money and shame. Will not be using again!

Had a mid week meal here with a friend to have a catch up. We like curry and try lots of places. The sErvice was ok but a bit forced and not very friendly. No complaints about the food which was average to good but nothing fantastic for the prices charged. The bill however was a shocker - we had no starters and two beers each and the bill was a few pence short if £90 which includes a service charge they’d slipped in. We paid and left feeling a little bit overcharged…….probably by £20. Next time we’ll go back to “ The Third Place” which is a short walk over the Frankwell bridge from there. Much nicer!

We placed our order more than 24 hrs in advance for delivery on new year Eve and payed in full. An hour after food hadn’t arrived we called and they said they had no record of order but said it would be with us in 20 mins, an hour later still hadn’t arrived so called again, Abdul claimed we hadn’t ordered and hung up on me, my partner called them and he told my partner it had gone to wrong address and said it would be with us in half hour. No apology, very rude and complained they had over 200 orders to get out, maybe they should focus on quality not quantity of service. Food finally arrived nearly 3 hours late, cold and frankly inedible. Purely because of the customer service I would not use again. Very disappointing

1 star is too generous but there is not an option for zero , We have been visiting here for over 15 years and incredibly disappointed in what it has become. Last night was so bad it was like something out of faulty towers..Service was non existent and we constantly had to ask for the basics , including menus, glasses, the 2 waitresses hardly spoke, when we asked for water , one bottle was taken from another table slammed on the table with no glasses, one small bottle for 7 diners . Previous visits the waiters have been a pleasure, chatty and professional, we had to wait over 1 and 1/2 hour for food, which was nice but certainly not the standard that we have been used to there. After complaining at the bar discreetly the manager came to our table instead of apologising he argued loudly in the middle of the restaurant about why the service was bad in front of the other diners, he was very rude and made a bad experience truly awful.

After reviewing the Cctv footage and the time you arrived this review doesn't completely make sense. Your booking was at 7.30 but your credit card receipt states you paid at 8.29 pm. Seems a pretty good time in which to drink and eat on a busy Saturday night. As you noticed we was absolutely ram packed to the brim and our friendly loyal friends were queuing down the stairs, I'm sure they wasn't all queuing to get something that is as terrible as you have written about. Our friends i state yes friends not customers come to café saffron as a stranger and leave as friends, they visit regular should they encounter a problem they approach us in a friendly manner they do not get aggressive to the staff. I have noticed on your profile that this is quite a regular thing you do go around slagging off local Shrewsbury restaurants, We are an established restaurant with over 20 years trading in the town, We hope that you learn that Indian restaurant waiters should not be subject to the abuse you gave us, and keyboard warriors like yourself should find something better do.

The food was tasty, However, the chicken in our curries was tough. We felt £65 for an Indian and one bottle of wine was expensive. The service was ok, but what we really didn’t like was the 10% service charge they added on the bill when we questioned it with a waiter, what the extra cost was, he said we have to work. We will not be returning. Disappointed.🥲

My 1st time here all Staff were lovely & very friendly- My meal very tasty & one of the best I have ordered in a restaurant or Take Away. The spices in mine were excellent & so good. I normally can only eat half of my curry but I ate the whole lot it was that good!!!!! Prices are reasonable & I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Cafe Saffron while I was visiting Shrewsbury for a few days. Would defo Recommend!!!!

Visited last night with a couple of friends. Decided to eat here as previous visit was excellent. However, after ordering a tandoori mixed grill, the chicken was raw. Sent it back to the kitchen and arrived back a short time later properly cooked, which was very tasty in the end. When the bill arrived there was no mention or reflection of this extremely dangerous error at all. I asked to speak to someone about the bill, was ignored for 10-15 mins until a 20% discount on the total was finally negotiated. I understand that sometimes mistakes are made, we are all human and fortunately I made the discovery before eating it. However, to just ignore the error, the customer and hope that they pay the full amount without an apology is very poor customer service and offensive.

Ordered a takeaway delivery, restaurant insisted it was collection, which we did. Very rude on collection and tried to charge an extra £1.50 for a sprinkling of spinach, which I refused to pay as we have have used this place many many times as a meal out and takeaways since 2007, spending a lot of money over the years! Got the food home, slimy, sloppy Naan breads and stale poppadums. The lamb in the Naga was tough and the Capsilla Murgh had uncooked veg! The “King Prawn” balti was a joke, 4 small prawns in a sauce far too hot and spicy for a Balti. Mushroom rice was ok but the Award Winning rice was nowhere near as nice as usual. Overpriced and very disappointing for what used to be the best place to go for a curry in Shrewsbury 😢 Cafe Saffron you need to sort your menu, prices, quality of food and staff interaction with customers as you will rapidly lose valued custom. So sorry to write this, but the takeaway experience was awful and spoilt our family’s evening.

I must admit the starter was lovely......... but it soon went down hill. After personal recommendation I had the upgraded Korma. I am not sure what it was upgraded to but it did not resemble a korma at all. The staff ignored us through the meal and were really dismissive when I asked about my meal. They are too concerned with the take away side of things rather than the customers in the restaurant. Would definitely not recommend this place unless you are absolutely desperate. Will not be returning!!!!!

My first visit on a cold and wet Saturday night. It was a really good tonic! I had a lunch so didn't eat as much as usual. Drunk Draught Cobra beer, I am not sure if they serve wine which I never drink with a curry, just a waste. Good attentive service and great value.

Went out for a few drinks with my best friend thought we’d end on a nice curry. We had poppadoms, a chicken biryini, chicken tikka buns, and a nann bread with two vodka lime and sodas. They took advantage of us as we’d had a few drinks the bill came to £66.60. We will definitely Berber set foot in that place again. We have also heard that this is a regular thing they do if they think they can get away with it! Disgusting behaviour!
