My evening at Tribe was an absolute joy. I went to Tribe three nights ago, drawn in by the smell from outside having walked past it a couple of hours before. The interior is beautifully decorated in authentic south Indian style and the owner was very quick to make us feel at home with complimentary welcome drinks and detailed recommendations for what to order. We ordered an assortment starters and sides, and the food was phenomenal. The dosa and the chickpea chole were superb and we were left fully satisfied for a very reasonable £15 a head. We were there for two hours and hardly noticed the time pass - having only ordered two courses, the little complimentary bits between courses (like lentil soup and sorbet at the end) made it feel like a top class culinary experience. The attention to detail is wonderful, I wish more restaurants had this same attitude to customer satisfaction. I will be going back soon, no question. Lovely place, lovely staff, and, most importantly, really fantastic food.

Hand painted murals, authentic, comfortable and beautifully lit. Excellent food and enthusiastic service. That sums up our visit.
Our first visit to Oxford in over 20 years and we stumbled across The Tribe en-route to the O2 Academy. Recently opened, we got chatting to the owner (Rohit) an extremely amiable and enthusiastic chap, who only a few months ago opened this charming mostly Indian, but fused with other delicate Asian foods, restaurant in Cowley Road, 5 minutes walk from the O2.
Having not read any reviews, we happened to order the Chicken Lollipops. Delicious. We particularly enjoyed the 'tasters' served in between each course. This included free small cocktails, that we then ordered to have again, they were so good. Tastes we would never normally look at or dare order, but they absolutely worked. One was a Pineapple juice, with a red 'rose juice' syrup at the bottom of the glass. Superb.
We have 2 rice & chicken dishes as our main course, with Bombay potato. Far too much for our appetites. It would easily have served 3 or 4. The taste was sublime. Thai chicken, with Indian side of potato. Sounds a little odd? Sure, but it worked.
We left feeling disappointed, only that we live 100 miles away and getting back to Tribe regularly was not an option. Well done Rohit. Top marks and thanks for your wonderful hospitality.

Varied and thoughtful fusion cuisine - for once I wanted everything on the menu. I had calamari starter cooked to perfection followed by beautifully made fish cakes with a luxurious truffle mayo. Lots of little extras and giving reminders of Mumbai street food - absolutely delicious. Staff are extremely attentive and friendly. The decor is warm and welcoming - hand painted by the owner with origins from Maharashtra. Very generous portions, feels like top class dining but was surprisingly inexpensive.

I discovered the most remarkable little restaurant yesterday evening in Oxford. It's apparently only been open 3 months. Think Indian and you imagine a huge menu with pre-prepared dishes on a standard theme. This couldn't be more different. The menu is compact but with a wide variety to suit all tastes. The dishes are delicately conceived and exquisitely presented. Unlike a standard Indian restaurant, everything is cooked freshly to order which means there are gaps between courses and these are filled in the French style as the management surprises you with delicious little "amuses bouches" while you are waiting. The boss clearly takes great pride in his cuisine and is happy to chat about his culinary methods. With his charm, enthusuasm, high standards and attention to detail, he feels like another Raymond Blanc in the making. This establishment is very unusual and fills a gap in the spectrum of restaurant styles in a very intriguing way. And the bill? Was it eyewateringly expensive? Amazingly, it was no more than you would pay in any standard Indian restaurant and easily within the budget of the typical student!

We simply wouldn't hesitate to return to 'Tribe' an Indian restaurant on the Cowley Road Oxford. If you want an authentic southern Indian food experience come to Tribe and I promise you, you won't be disappointed! As soon as you walk in the attention to detail is superb and you are given a variety of tiny tasting treats whilst waiting for your order. Be prepared to wait for your food within a reasonable timeframe in return for a freshly prepared meal. I have to say this is the best Indian Meal I've ever had and it was worth every penny. The service again is exemplary!! Cost-wise superb - fairly priced food!!
No I'm not on commission in writing this review, I just wanted to thank the restaurant for excellent value for money freshly cooked food and for its wonderful service!!!

Brilliant experience, ate here for a family meal. As a family member lived near by. I got to try the chicken lollipop, calamari, mozzarella sticks and paneer curry. I’m not a huge curry fan but i can honestly say it was delicious. The calamari was really good too.
Amongst all of this a small soup came between starter and main which we hadn’t ordered, but part of the experience and it was the perfect palate breaker between courses. I would love the recipe for this, as I could have happily had a large bowl of it.
But the thing that really stole the show for me that i would 100% visit just to order them alone, the Paratha. It’s a must order item to go with curry.
We couldn’t manage dessert after being stuffed with all of the above. But to finish an already great meal we were given a beautiful icy sorbet shot (non alcoholic)
Great atmosphere and we would all visit again.

I have been to almost every Indian restaurant in Oxford and this tops the list easily. Ambience is perfect for a solo, date, or group visit. The dishes are mouth-watering and several complements are served while you wait for the food. 10 on 10 from me

I was treated to a wonderful birthday dinner on my third visit to Tribe, and what a treat it turned out to be. The food is without doubt the best Indian food available in Oxford. It is a small menu, but everything on it is delicious and cooked to order. This means you may have to wait a bit for your food, but you are then rewarded with mouth-watering dishes from various different parts of India, most notably from South India, none of which appear on the bloated menus of your typical curry house. The breads are beautifully cooked, and you are showered with little treats while you wait for the main course. All of this, and at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate without being too quiet, and the owners have done a brilliant job decorating the whole restaurant with tribal motifs and decorative lighting. Oh, and the wine is very well chosen and relatively inexpensive. Well worth a visit, and then you will want to go again.

Tribe has the best Indian food. The menu is short and sweet with only the best food to offer. The food is freshly cooked which causes a bit of delay however they serve you with small portions for starters, soup and pre- dessert before each meal which enhances the dinning experience. The ambience is extremely beautiful 😍.
It's a must visit place if u wanna dig deep into the flavours of Indian Cuisine.

What a find! Rohit and his team excel at customer service and the food is just exquisite. We found this place on Trip Advisor, it’s only been open since December last year (2021), and doesn’t have many reviews … yet! Our food was more than delicious. I had the lamb Chettinad South Indian curry … wow!! The chef has obviously found the secret of nurturing the deepest flavours from the spices, and his patience definitely pays off. The curry was hot and spicy, with deep aromatic flavours. Husband had the prawn noodles which were clearly freshly made and very flavoursome too. Watch this space for this delightful, authentic and personable restaurant to quickly work its way up the Trip Advisor rankings!

The staff were welcoming and friendly, the place is nicely decorated with a good ambience. The menu is unlike a traditional curry house and doesn’t have your typical curries, instead it has a selection of home cooked local dishes. The chicken makanki was one of the best curries I’ve had and the sauce was so creamy yet tasty. They bring you mini tasting plates while you’re waiting too which was a nice touch.

Wonderful and so welcoming. This is a real find on the Cowley Road not far from the city centre. The owner is so welcoming and the attention to detail really adds to the experience.
Food is delicious with generous portions and all cooked fresh.
Try the flaky parathas and the tasty chicken lollipop. The chef is so friendly and is very happy to chat and share his ideas and even cook special requests to order!
Go and visit ... you won't be disappointed.

I stay in Oxford and I tried many Indian restaurants but never had authentic original taste but when i ordered food from here through deliveroo the food packaging was so nice and fully sealed with decorative warli painting on the box also food was Hot i didn’t even reheat it before eating , the aroma of the food was superb as soon as i opened the boxes and the taste was authentic Indian .
I ordered chicken fried rice and chicken chettinad with white rice the quantity was more than enough for two people . I personally like spicy food so i called the restaurant and informed them about my spicy level and chef made it exact spicy food i wanted !
I should say its must try …
This is not even any paid promotion or anything its my emotion for this food because i tried lot of restaurants and this one touched my soul ❤️

We have visited here three times now, we live close by, last time Boxing day when we took the family (9 covers)
Excellent wine list IRO £20
A small but adequate menu which will change every month. The food is prepared by a chef late of the Ivy. The owner himself was a sommelier at the Randolf. First class staff cater to you every need(food wise) nothing is too much trouble.
We will be regulars here.

Friendly reception and service in a space decorated with originality and ingenuity. The food was delicious, satisfying all tastes and there were surprises from the owner, who tried to please us throughout the dinner (extra drink, dessert and souvenir photo at the end). Good value for money. Highly recommended.
