Atmosphere is all this ancient pub has to offer. We tried the fried fish; dry and over cooked. We tried the salmon on baguette; salmon was fair, but baguette was dry, flavorless, seemed to come from the day old-shelf of a grocery. We tried the...More

Hello Sorry you did not enjoy the food. Did you tell the staff? We would of course exchanged or at least dealt with the issue. There is nothing we can do now which is a great shame but apologise.

Hello Yes we are I would say a bar that is right in the heart of the city and we do attract tourists. They are here to experience the grade two listed building and of course the Morse, Lewis and Endeavour connection. We actually do...More

It’s a classic traditional pub - old wooden panelling, cosy and quaint. Nice bar area - decent range of local and other beers. Didn’t know eat so can’t comment on food. It’s on Broad Street, so right in the centre - opposite the Sheldonian. Nice...More

I was looking forward so much to eating and having a pint in this pub because of its relationship with Morse and having read some pretty good reviews. What a disappointment, what a waste of money on the food. Set in a wonderful location and...More

Hello Quite a lengthy review which I’m confused as to why you did not say anything on the day! We don’t bite. Far from it. Our very approachable manager or staff would have dealt with this immediately and changed or added to your dish. I...More

Very traditional little pub. It was busy when we went on a Saturday. Really nice friendly staff & atmosphere. We did get a seat and enjoyed a little tipple or two! Lots of Morse & Lewis decor.

stopped here for a pint but wish we had not already eaten as the food looked great. Big links with Morse from the TV. Good selection of beer and really cosy.

We would have gone here anyway, because of its historic architecture and association with Morse and Lewis. Because of its hours and location, we linked our visit to our 8pm tickets at the Sheldonian, which is right across the street. We were able to duck...More

Stopped in here for a pint with a few friends, atmosphere was great with a football game playing. Good, cold, reasonably priced ales (roughly £4 a pint).

It's not clear which is the oldest pub in Oxford but the White Horse at least claims to be the smallest. We had Sunday lunch here and the food and the ambience and the staff and the welcome were all first rate. It's bang in...More

Arrived in Oxford just in time for a bite to eat, nice warm welcome from the bar staff. Chose fish and chips with peas - the batter was lovely and crispy not soggy on the underside and very tasty, as was the fish. Chips were...More

It's small but we just walked in. I'd suggest at that time it might pay to try and book.

Located in the heart of the City sandwiched between Blackwells Bookstore and opposite the Sheldonian Theatre. A grade two listed building dating back to the 16th century. Famous for our Fish and Chips. Also famous for filming of Inspector Morse in the 1980's and more recently 'Lewis' and the new 'Endeavour' Real ales and traditional home cooked food makes us a must visit when you are in Oxford. We are not a gastro pub or restaurant, we are a great British Pub with Great pub food and drink.
