This is a great traditional village pub. Full if charm and character. The selection of beer and wine were good and the cellarman obviously cares about his work as the beer was as good as it gets. The staff were really friendly and, as a...More

Excellent, friendly staff, a lovely quiet, modern room with plenty of teas and coffees and nice toiletries. Wi-fi good enough to stream Netflix and Sky Go. The food in the restaurant was quite superb. A real treat for a business trip.

We stayed at the Bear and Ragged staff in the hotel so thought best to try the food too. The menu, although not extensive, had some fantastic choices on it. The service was spot on, the staff gave us enough time to look at the...More

I took some business people here about two weeks before the take over-make over, it was pretty poor. My wife and I went two weeks after the reopening and what a contrast. The restaurant décor has changed and looks good, but the bar has been...More

My wife and I went in this evening for a light dinner after late afternoon tea. This is a lovely old building that has been updated without destroying its ambiance. We began with a cheese souffle with soused apples that was delicious and well presented....More

Very warm welcome from all the staff I was hoping for fish and chips but it was only fish on the menu, but the chef soon rattled up some beer batter and made delicious fish and chips. The pea and ham soup for starters was...More

What a treat to live in a village with such a great pub. The bar retains that old-world English pub feel while the main dining area is chic and modern and yet still true to the building's roots. It's always a treat to come here....More

Not the right place for vegetarians as the place offers limited vegetarian menu. I had a Wild Mushroom and Red Onion tart, which was delicious. My dessert, Eton Mess was also yummy. The decor and ambience is wonderful and homely. Has a car park, but...More

Questions & Answers
Please can you review how you present Sunday lunch? From the way you present your food and the passion you clearly show it was strange to see cold, brittle and burnt Yorkshire puddings on 5 of the 6 plates... looking at other tables they too were similarly served. It may be better not to serve them if you find you have to pre-cook and reheat- I know you have to mass produce a lot for Sunday roasts but please do a quality review to see how you can serve them freshly baked? The roast beef was so evenly sliced it may be factory pre-cooked? The connective tissue was un-rendered in the slices I had which was unpleasant - again possibly because of the sheer number you have to get through I appreciate that you have to get through a lot of work but might be worth a review to check? Lastly the gravy served was over thickened and gloopy- possibly a batch that had been rushed late in the serving but it would be good to serve in gravy boats rather than cover the meat/ boiled veg on every plate, so people have the choice to serve themselves with what they want? I appreciate that Sunday roasts are hard work but with such a big turnover it would be worth checking things that might be slipping through that you may not be aware of, through no fault of your front of house staff who were friendly and helpful and lovely.
