Lovely atmosphere and great food. We used tesco vouchers but would have happily paid in cash the food was really tasty! The highlight of our visit was the waitress who handled the room brilliantly, which was full. I can't recall her name but this girl had short blond hair and was the sister of the manageress. She was super friendly... More

This is a great location and you can sit in the window and watch the tourist world meander by. This seat is an interesting observation point for the busker turnaround - mandolin player moves over for a funky accordion player while another busker with his piano indulges in a little local banter. Sadly I never saw the mobile pianist perform... More

Arrived without booking a table as was only 7 o clock, seated in cramped back room. Were told what was off the menu straight away, which was quite a lot and no house red wine!! Two of us ordered mussels, small bowls with small mussels ,quite a lot of shells empty as well and gritty! I ordered pork fillet, very... More

I ordered mussels I assume that they had shrunk during over cooking /microwave as they were so small ! I left hungry and feeling alarmed that I had paid for the smallest mussels I have ever had. My friend had onion soup which was fab but her toasted sandwich wasn't exactly filled with smoked ham and emmantel cheese on one... More

Nice atmosphere & pleasant staff, let down by very slow service, 45 minutes from ordering to arriving at table & then incorrect order brought & food over cooked, I was offered a replacement but this means eating after everybody else has finished so I accepted the item to be taken off the bill, will be a long time till we... Some of the plates are nice, some are not. Is not cheap (compared to its rivals). Service is not helpful. We arrived and they failed to show us the set menu, we had to ask for it. At the end we decide to go for a la carte menu. Bouillabaisse was nice, moules were just not fresh and he sauce... More

Used to love the food here. Arrived 4pm, they had run out of a few things on menu. How do they keep letting this happen when they are serving food for 5 hours more. I had demi poulet, half chicken with frites, must have been the smallest chicken ever. My husband had a burger which he said was tasty but... More

Our first visit to Cafe Rouge, 4 adults last Thursday. The meal had several faults, some more serious than others. We suspect it was down to a terrible night in the kitchen. One starter was wrong and taken back and after a delay returned but another starter (the souffle) didn't arrive (and even then upside down and looking a bit... More

We popped into this quaint little French styled Cafe for breakfast while wondering around the beautiful City of York, nice welcome from the staff and pleasantly decorated with a definite French theme, the menu offers some French themed options and especially with the cake and afternoon tea theme but we had an excellent English Breakfast with Sausage, Poached Eggs (also...
