Fab wine selection at reasonable prices given the location. Sit outside and watch the weird and wonderful pass by or enter the cave like interior either way a good spot to spend the afternoon or evening. Watch out for thieves !. The cheese plates are nice to nibble on and reasonable.

The place was packed when we visited it, and we decided to sit outside, where we enjoyed a good bottle of wine. The place is really nice and I hope to visit it again soon, if I will ever find a table there.

A regular haunt of mine for far too many years. Incredibly popular with post work crowd given proximity to Charing X and Embankment. Best advice from a consumate oenophile...ask the staff for advice. They are young yet supremely knowledgeable on wine matters. Don't be afraid to tell them your budget too. You can always get an outstanding bottle for around... More

Been coming here for well over 25 years and it hasn't changed at all. Still dark and dingy but great fun and a real experience. A phenomenal selection of wine, sherry and port. Not the place to come if you want a beer! Food is simple but tasty. We always have a bottle (or two) of wine and a selection... More

You must visit this bar. In summer you can sit outside, drinking wine, listening to the band that plays in the park next door, they have ploughmans platters and an outdoor BBQ. In winter its cosy interior is inviting, warm, dark, romantic. It has gallons of character, rustic old tables with candles burning the low brick ceilings, it's a hive... More

This is my favourite bar to drink in when with friends or when with my partner. The house wine is reasonably priced and tasty which along with the cheese platter can make for a very nice relaxed late afternoon. Also the location is amazing and I'm summer it's definately one of my must go to spots for a drink!

We spent one day in London and had a walking tour guide. He brought us here to have a glass of wine. We thought the interior was so different we decided to also have lunch. The food and wine were both very good. Great place to visit for food and / or wine.

Definitely worth a visit! Very cool setting in a dark cave, lit only by candles. There is no table service, you have to order at the bar. Good variety of wines. We also had a nice cheese platter to snack on. Would definitely recommend!

Excellent for drinking wines, sherries and ports from the barrel, but food and environment could benefit from improvement. I would feel embarrassed if I took an overseas visitor there, despite its apparent charm.

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighbourhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
