Several of my friends like this place, but being a big fan of Vietnamese food, I've been disappointed every time I went there. The spring rolls are really greasy and almost empty inside, the Bo Bun tastes weird. The service isn't very good, you wait a lot. And the place is really big, without a particularly good atmosphere.

Amazing food here, really enjoy it - definitely get the squid. However, the staff weren't great at all and seemed to be all over the place. I made a reservation and the waiter kept saying they didn't have it / there might be a problem with the booking system. Eventually he found my name. They had enough tables anyway so... More

Visited with the family for our first experience of Vietnamese food. The waiter was really friendly in suggesting things we should try and when I saw tasty looking dishes going to other tables they were happy to add these to our order! The food was really tasty and the shrimp and crab were great. The food came out as it... More

Came here for a casual dinner with friends. For starters, we shared the squid and soft shell crab were delicious. Highlight was the classic Pho, flavourful broth with perfectly cooked beef brisket and noodles. Only downside was that the banana fritters for dessert were very disappointing.

This got to be one of the best Asian dinners I had this year! I ordered a pork dish which was very good and my wife had the Mekong fish. Not only that the fish tasted literately amazing, it also came on fire :) And the chilies were hot, the way they are supposed to be.

There used to be a super friendly old guy who would wear a wool cap all the time and greet restaurant guests with a big smile. He was there all the time. Now there is new management and he is not there anymore, I really don't know what happened to him and I'm quite sad he's not there anymore but... More

Went here with my partner for the weekend as we had a friends wedding to attend. Looked on trip advisor to see where there was Vietnamese Pho near our hotel and I'm so happy we stumbled across this gem! We had Vietnamese spring rolls, Beef pho (beef well done as I'm pregnant) and a spicy pho! So fresh and delicious!... More

late night dinner after some drinks. popped in, and had to wait by the extremely tight bar for a table, and eventually about 10 mins or so later we were given a small table downstairs. The mains came in no time order, and came as and when, with the jasmine rice arriving once all the food was finished. Okay for... More

Description
Cay Tre is Hoxton's favourite Vietnamese restaurant, small but perfectly formed. Here you'll find a fresh and creative approach to Vietnamese cuisine that we pride ourselves on. Cay Tre is bustling with life and full of the heady aromas of great Vietnamese cooking. We're passionate about food, ensuring what you get is an authentic taste of Vietnam using fresh, well sourced ingredients from the British Isles, wherever possible.

We have a saying at Cay Tre, which is 'to make the simplest of dishes taste good you need the ingredients of time and passion' and you can be assured we have plenty of both. Every dish, from our street food snacks to our a la carte delicacies, is lovingly prepared with this saying in mind. Take our classic beef Pho for example, which takes over 18 hours to make! Likewise, our wine list is carefully selected by renowned wine writer Malcolm Gluck to match the aromatic dishes on the menu.

What's more, if you're looking for food on the go, we offer a Vietnamese takeaway service and can deliver promptly to your home or office.

Staying in Shoreditch

Neighbourhood Profile
Shoreditch
The western front of the edgy East End, Shoreditch is a perennially trendy haven for anything “street” – be it art, food, or fashion. With its handful of well connected transportation links dotting its perimeter, along with an ever increasing variety of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants, it's easy to explore this trend-conscious and youth-oriented neighbourhood. There's a lingering post-industrial grit about Shoreditch, but because it shares a border with “The City” financial district, the influence from its upscale neighbour can result in fascinating outcomes.
