Benares is truly what one would expect for Indian fine dining. A bit of fusion, yet authentic allowing one to rediscover familiar palette with a twist of ingenuity and top quality! The location is prime and the ambiance pleasing with efficient and friendly service.

My husband and I recently visited London and dined at Benares celebrating my birthday. It was an excellent experience. We tried their 7-course tasting menu with wine pairing. It was one of the best experiences we had, and we have eaten at a lot of...places in London. Mattia who was our server was very attentive to our needs and Radhe Khanna our wine connoisseur made the evening a memorable one! Highly recommend!More

Sadly made to feel a bit like second class diners as we were dining on a gift voucher for a set menu. The gift was a carefully and lovingly thought out birthday treat, yet there was nothing made special about it in reality. It was...almost like we were being “cheap” and not part of the Michelin star experience somehow. The Champagne cocktail had no cocktail and was simply a glass of sparkling wine. The set menu only available for relatively early diners and quite limited The ratio of waiters to diners was almost 1:1 but service was average at best. Lots of activity, mainly fussing around and the regular pouring of another table’s wine which had been placed right next to our table and not theirs? Food was OK, tasty, well presented and spicy. Additional drinks are seriously overpriced Decor is a bit dated in a darkened 80s style and would benefit from an update.More

I ordered the lunch set menu. The starter was a single scallop with a small rice cake. They could have been more generous by offering 2 scallops. My lamb curry main was nice and came with 2 pieces of greenish roti. The set menu was...supposed to come with a champagne cocktail but wasn't offered one until I checked with the head waiter. Service was generally OK and the staff I asked couldn't answer my specific question regarding the menu and didn't offer to get further clarification. I had to locate the specific person myself.More

This place. I think this might be the best meal I've had in London and I've eaten at a lot of places. Certainly the best Indian restaurant. Better than Trishna, better than Gymkhana. The subtleties in the different dishes we had and flavor profiles were...just extraordinary. I've never thought of daal as a delicacy until I tried theirs. And the paneer tandoori paired with the Gewertzimer (sp) wine was just extraordinary. The tikka masala, the scallops... Everything was just so mouthwateringly delicious we shall be back - definitely without a doubt. Well done Benares!More

This was my second visit to the restaurant. We got as a wedding gift a set menu with cocktails. This time The experience was much better than the first. The set menu it is nice, but we made some mistakes. The samosa chaat was nicely...prepared and with a lot of flavour. The momo was horrible, a momo with soup that spoiled the whole flavour. For mains we choose the lamb curry (very nice again) and the fish (too small for a main course). The dessert were the best of the meal. The peach and mango desserts just beautiful made and presented. Not sure if I will come back here, maybe yes as the set menu has a a very reasonable priceMore

I've eaten in great Indian restaurants in Asia, England, and North America, but this one takes the cake. How can you make such great inventive Indian food that seems to fly? From inventive drinks, (paan cocktail), to fantastic paneer dishes and to die for lamb...chops, this place was great.More

In all senses this is quite a different type of indian cuisine than you probably expect. Just a few items to choose from on the menu, and non of them was "ordinary Tikka Masalas, Tandooris, Kormas or whatever. But the flavours was definitevly indian. Everything...perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and presented as food-art. Great experience!More

Really excellent Indian food- tender meat, robust sauces, delicate spices, gentle heat in some and strong heat in others. Absolutely perfect. Couldn't choose a favourite, all the dishes were so good. Ordered a couple of extra dishes and the waiter said one would do. He...was right. Portions never look big enough but they are so rich and full of flavour they are more than enough!! Service was excellent too. A wonderful evening.More

Went for a business dinner. The food was good. Other colleagues enjoyed the food. For me it was ok. I am a vegetarian. Having been to 100s of Indian restaurants in London and around the world, this was nothing above ordinary. Service was good.

We were 5 here for the lunch time deal so we got to sample everything included in the offer. The different dishes ranged from good to superb. Not all were worthy of a Michelin star and surprisingly those that were high end interpretation of the...most humble dishes like their Samosa were the ones that really shined and left a lasting impression. The staff were very professional but thankfully bereft of the stuffiness of some similar institutions. At lunch time, the deal offered, is great value for money.More

Revisited this Michelin starred restaurant during my stay in London and chose 2 courses lunch menu with pairing wines (two glasses). I was disappointed at Orkney Scallop (starter I chose) as it was surprisingly tiny portion, however lamb curry (main I chose) was stunning and...lived up to my expectation in terms of both taste and portion. Pairing wines were very average, however they may be a good choice for solo dining. Ambience and service were Michelin quality. Overall sore could be better if I chose a starter other than the scallop. More
