Wonderful view. excellent service. Average food. Serious downside was that half the restaurant was a noisy 'boozer'! Dozens straight from work drinking and talking noisily. The Skylon has lost its charm and elegance.

My daughter and I had the special Weekend Brunch Offer. 3 courses for £30.00 and bottomless Prosacco as a £17 supplement. The staff do not stint on filling up your glass. Fantastic food. The confit duck leg was tasty and unctuous and the Pistachio Brûlée looked and tasted beautiful. My daughter loved the Skylon burger. Not to mention the delicious... More

We visited Skylon as a party of 6 for a Mother's Day meal on 26th March 2017. We were initially greeted very well, told the table would be another 5 minutes so offered a drink at the bar. Unfortunately that was the last time we were offered a drink throughout the entire meal sitting. When we were seated at the... More

The royal festival hall sponsored by Marmite. You either love it or hate it. I'd never been to the restaurant until a friend suggested meeting here. I was taken aback by the view from inside looking back over the Thames from sky high windows. It certainly beats the view from Waterloo bridge looking back. The menu is fine dining with... More

Great location and ambiance but food was patchy and overpriced. One dish in particular was very poor and we were still charged despite complaining and not eating it. Asked for ketchup 3 times, came only once mains almost finished.

The food is quite good especially the steak and seafood. A very pleasant view of the Thames is availble near the windows. The service is always attentive.

Family meal out right on the Southbank. High quality food with very good service from Alejandro! (Just glad I wasn't the one paying)

I love the 1950's complex on the South Bank centred round the Royal Festival Hall and the Skylon Restaurant is a good place to eat within it. Good views over the Thames and the food and service were perfectly good too. We, and quite a few other diners, arrived a little early for our reservations at the start of the... More

Dined here on Saturday as we had tickets to the magnificent Beethoven's Ninth concert conducted by Benjamin Zander at the Royal Festival Hall. We booked the set menu at 6pm. I should have trusted my instinct and cancelled when I returned the receptionist call to confirm the reservation and was cut off twice and then passed to 3 different operators.... More

Wonderful location but food disappointing. We went for the set menu at 6pm. I had the sea bass which was very small and tasteless. Had a side dish of new potatoes which were luke warm. As I was eating my main course the plate cracked and broke into two pieces. The waiter apologised and was surprised that it broke because... More

Skylon takes its name from the original, iconic structure that was built for the 1951 Festival of Britain and the restaurant's design echoes the style of the Royal Festival Hall during the same period. Situated on the third floor of the Southbank Centre, Skylon boasts outstanding views over the River Thames from its huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The main Restaurant features modern British cuisine, while the Grill offers more informal cooking and a relaxed atmosphere. The two dining areas are separated by a stunning centrepiece, raised bar which is renowned across London for its fabulous cocktails. Executive Head Chef Tom Cook brings a wealth of experience to the kitchen, following time at sister restaurant Pont de la Tour. Look out for regularly changing menus with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients combined simply and imaginatively. Visit the Skylon website for sample menus and further information.

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
