While visiting the oldest pub in London, 'Ye Old Cheshire Cheese' in Fleet Street, which incidentally is a must experience, we chatted to a local who mentioned the Wong Kei in China Town, it is just over the road from a great restaurant , 'Gerrards Corner', I do not know why he even mentioned the Wong Kei as he did... The evening was ruined by our waiter last night. Not attentive, rude, answered back, difficult to order drinks. Felt like we were an annoyance to him, rather than his guests.

Great food and low prices. Probably one of the cheapest in the area. The service is a bit rude, but cares ;)

Visited Wong Kei at lunchtime. Green tea was served immediately while we thought about ordering. The food was served quickly, it was tasty and generously proportioned. A large steaming plate of fried noodles with vegetables and pork was less than £6.00. Service was not refined but not unfriendly either, just businesslike and perfectly adequate for a no frills lunch.

The ENTIRE staff here was unbelievably rude, so don't be surprised if you step in and the first question you get is "What do you want?" They were irritated by almost any customer coming in, and the experience was so unpleasant that it ruined my appetite, and of course, they didn't care. Should I have left a tip?

Visited as a family, we were told to go upstairs where we were seated at a round table. We had a set menu which was really good value. The food was very tasty, service is efficient, free jasmine tea is very nice. Staff are very abrupt and unfriendly but food made up for it. Restaurant is huge and very busy.

Been coming here for over 25 years and was always absolutely fantastic but in more recent years its food quality has gone downhill and they just round up your bill, definately alot more pricey now too.

At Wong kei we were instantly ushered upstairs. Downstairs is very barebones. Looks like a cafeteria and is filled with a Chinese looking population. Always a good sign at a Chinese restaurant. Upstairs what looks to be a more international audience is seated at communal Large round tables. I'd heard that the service was a bit surly and yes, that... More

Staying in Soho

Neighbourhood Profile
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
