Yesterday we had an enjoyable lunch in the bar area of the Goring. The menu is good and varied including, amongst other items, soup, salads and sandwiches. The cured organic salmon and beetroot sandwich was unusual and my granddaughter said the barbecued pork bun with apple coleslaw was the best she'd ever had. The service was slow at times and... Having stayed several nights at the hotel in April and May, I enjoyed these rooms a lot. There are cozy corner chairs to enjoy your beverage, or you may select a terrace view or even sit on the terrace. It is a grand setting for Afternoon Tea. Lunch is lovely as well. It seems many locals set up meetings over... More

Bar snacks (caesar salad etc.) are freshly made and big enough for a light meal. Those having afternoon tea do not appear to have been brought in by the busload and there is an excellent bar.

I have frequented many establishments in and outside of London for afternoon tea over the past 10 years. Unfortunately 'The Goring' afternoon tea has come out the worst for food, venue and service in my mental notebook. Let me explain why... Service - we were very early but got seated and told that we could order a drink. Unfortunately no... More

Had a drink here on my arrival and a gorgeous large pot of coffee served in a silver pot and fabulous crockery - welcoming home from home

My daughters and I had afternoon tea at The Goring on March 15, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. The ambiance of the lounge area was very nice and the hostess was very friendly. Our waiter, a tall young man with presumably a French accent, was initially very attentive. However, after the initial tea service, he disappeared for at least 45 minutes.... More

This place is a bit of an institution. The club sandwich is a 6/10. Very good Bloody Mary and plenty of staff milling around. Seems like a regular crowd who come here. Service was ok did not like the decor in hall and around the whole place. Staff were very nice though. Expensive for a quick lunch. Very good French... More

I took some family to the Goring recently for afternoon tea, which was very disappointing. The sandwiches had very little filling, the beef & horseradish had no horseradish & my beef was stringy. The tea which I had (English breakfast) was so weak you couldn't taste it. The cream for the scones did not taste or look like Devon clotted cream.... More

Went for lunch this week, the menu was lovely, however the food did not come up to scratch. The starter of risotto was excellent, but the main - salt marsh lamb whilst cooked correctly, the vegetables were stone cold! We sent it back and waited and waited, to be fair they offered us a complimentary glass of champagne. When it... More

A few peanuts on the floor next to the chair should have been enough of a warning but warning bells definitely going off when our bottle of Rose wine arrived luke warm - never been near a fridge. The waitress seemed surprised when we pointed it out and went off to "get an ice bucket to chill it for you."... More

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
