It's always nice to find a good restaurant in a sea of tourist traps. The pastas at Assaggetti are excellent. Prices are reasonable. Service is good. It is a great option for dinner before a show at The Royal Haymarket across the street.

We arrived without a reservation but were offered a table straight away. The food was ok, but even for "London" prices it was overpriced for the standard of what we received. The pizza base was so thin you could actually see through it! The service was lukewarm, staff didn't return to check if our food was ok or if we... More

Really good food in a very pleasant setting. The service was good too. When I eat here again I'll order a half bottle of wine because the glass was a short measure, but it was good quality. I'm not keen on the gratuity being automatically added to the bill but on this occasion I reckoned I would have tipped more... More

We ate at this restaurant for the first time last night - a pizza and pasta joint. Staff were friendly, but the pasta dishes were delivered cold - how hard is it to serve hot food - hot? Wine was even more over-priced than usual for the West End - won't be going there again.

The food was pretty nice and reasonably priced but the service was awful. They seemed very reluctant to serve us - we were seated for about 20 minutes before we were even given a menu and they barely acknowledged us after that. We had to flag them down for everything, they were incredibly standoffish and unwelcoming, to the point where... More

We ate here on Easter Monday as a family of four adults. This was the nicest Italian food that we have eaten. Each course was authentic and delicious. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The waitress brought out my dessert with a lit candle followed by the "Happy birthday" song sung to me. We ate with plenty of time... More

Tuna tartar starter was tasty, as was the mushroom risotto but other dishes were fairly bland. Service started well but they seemed to lose interest as the restaurant got busier. The table layout for 3 people was a bit odd. Nothing bad to say about this restaurant but nothing great either.

Looking for somewhere to eat before going to the theatre, we virtually stumbled upon Assaggetti. Although the food we had was quite simple, it was especially gratifying to find a place that obviously took pride in doing simple things very well. The restaurant was very busy, yet the staff were very nice and wonderfully attentive. The next time we go... More

Booked as part of a theatre ticket deal for £15 for 2 courses per head. In this area, we weren't expecting much for so little money, but it was so convenient to not have to find somewhere to eat pre-show. It was described as "tapas" menu on our ticket. We had starter and mains which admittedly were small, but very... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighbourhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
