shame about the food, the service was impeccable. I think the place is going in the right direction but along way to go on the food front. The pub is nice enough a proper pub. The food we ordered the confit duck leg started (cold). I guess I was expecting more. The steak was ok not great nothing on cau... More

A very friendly welcome to this pleasant restaurant. Menu short but interesting. Service excellent and staff happy to cater for different dietary needs. Fish delicious. Great value with 50% off food. Will be back.

Nice atmosphere in dining room Nice setting & interior all staff were all polite, friendly & efficient. Food arrived well prepared. I had Woodland mushroom soup which was great, would have been nice to be offered some bread (why provide side plates?) Main was Devonshire kid, very rich and I couldn’t finish the pappardelle. Veg side dishes were very small... More

Had a very tasty meal but so disappointed About my order of Devonshire kid goat with pasta and curds . There was literally no meat That a fork could stab and only a very few shreds Would have needed a DNA examination to have determined the type of meat let alone the age and provenance of the goat . It... More

Just before going to the White Swan I'd read one or two negative reviews and almost cancelled. I'm very glad I didn't as, although there were one or two minor glitches, the food was delicious with very generous portions. I had 3 courses and each one was memorable. Mushroom soup with tortellini, cod with mussel veloute and the quince dessert... More

Everything that could go wrong went wrong. It started with my colleague asking for sparkling water and being offered a diet coke. When informed of his mistake, the waiter indignantly took the Diet Coke away. We ordered lunch at 12.25 and still had not received our food one hour later (the restaurant was far from full). When it did arrive,... More

Four of us visited the White Swan to celebrate Twelve Night. They called my number a couple of hours before to confirm, left a message and I called back, spoke to someone to confirm. All normal... On arrival, the person at the bar said that I gave them the wrong number and I only spoke to them a couple of... More

Booked a leaving meal for as colleague for today about three weeks ago. Called, made the reservation - all great. Even got a confirmation email. Called on the day an hour before to confirm and all was ok ,despite the fact the booking had been made under the wrong first name. Called again later to say we'd be a bit... More

I've only undertaken a couple of reviews before, but this experience ensures I will do more. My wife booked the White Swan for my 40th birthday and the best part of 140 guests came and went over the day, which would be a challenge for any venue. Despite noisy kids, lots of spills and even a foam spraying clown (literally),... More

I have been wanting to have a meal at the White Swan for a couple of years so was pleased to find that our office Christmas meal had been booked there. A dozen of us went at lunchtime and had the Christmas menu. Sadly it didn't live up to our expectations. The good points: 1. Staff were polite and responsive,... More

Description
If you don't believe in fairytales, perhaps a visit to The White Swan will change your mind. Tom and Ed Martin, the brothers who run the Swan's umbrella company ETM Group, have applied their magic to transform the former Mucky Duck into a charismatic gastropub. The groundfloor houses a beautifully restored pub packed with traditional features and serving classic pub favourites. Above this is a mezzanine area perfect for after work drinks or a casual drinks party. The first floor dining room meanwhile is an oak-floored, mirrored ceiling restaurant serving tasty British food from the best suppliers and carefully selected produce. The wine menu has been carefully selected from the world's finest vineyards but you are never too far away from a real Ale from the downstairs pub.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
