We came for afternoon tea in April. It was a bit pricey but the setting is pretty and the location fab. There were lots of lovely touches (images from Shakespeare plays in plates etc) and the bread table was great. The food was nice, the menu was pretty simple (not super exciting) but everything was made well. The service was... More

It's the obvious place to eat at The Globe, but they don't let this make them slack. You do need to book, but for our very special outing, the staff were so attentive and helpful, and the food so lovely (seasonal and carefully composed) it really added up to a magical evening - thank you all!

This is a charming and quaint place as well. Right at the borders of Thames river and right beside Shakespeare Globe Theatre, Swan offer a mix of restaurant (2nd floor) and a pub (1st floor). I just visited the restaurant and I may say that the menu is great, the view is another thing and the service is perfect. No... More

If you are visiting the Globe theater this is the place to eat before the show. However, the upstairs restaurant does book up early so be prepared to go early or take your chance in the bar. The bar is also a favorite happy hour at spot for Londoners working in the area so arrive early. Bar menu has the... More

First, the service wasn't in a good level; we didn't get any recommendations for food or wine. The food wasn't anything special and the childrens menu was surprisingly expensive. The view was perfect to the London river; that was the best part of the experience..

Five of us pitched up at the bar at lunchtime without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised to get a table at the window. The views of the river area are excellent and we whiled away a few hours sampling the beers and food. The menu is extensive (which is usually not a good thing) and very reasonably priced. Everything... More

Visited on a busy Saturday afternoon. Chose the pulled pork burger from the specials menu - food was nice but took a long time to arrive. Our second round of drinks was also forgotten about. Disappointed as have visited before and service and food were excellent

Pre-theatre supper before the magnificently different, dark and atmospheric Romeo and Juliet at the Globe. We had a drink and some bar food - the bar is attractive and a little quirky, with stunning river views. It was really crowded, but our lovely server managed to squeeze us into a booth. We had some prosecco, the vegetable curry and a... More

Very disappointed with the food on Wednesday night.. My starter of croquette of pork had a beautiful crispy coating with plenty of pork filling but totally lacked seasoning and therefore very bland. The tablespoon of sauce was unidentifiable. The Lamb Chump chops were over cooked and again flavourless. My three guests were also underwhelmed by their choices. The puddings were... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
