I was looking for a restaurant for lunch near to Liverpool Street and i am pleased I found The English Restaurant. It is just across from Spitalfield Market and is like an old wine bar, with open seating and booths. The food is traditional comfort food. I had onion soup followed by fish pie, which were both very tasty. My... More

Lovely surroundings, friendly welcome and great beer choice for Belgian and continental ales. Lots of polished wood and interesting nooks and crannies. Look out for the booths made from old church seating and atmospheric dining areas, including upstairs. Lovely.

We came here during a birthday day out in London, on a whim. I had never heard of the place but we decided to eat here as we were both starving. The customer service was incredible. Kevin and Tomas were so personable and friendly. They went the extra mile to make our visit very memorable. When the food arrived, we... More

Loved this unpretentious restaurant, light and spacious, yet at the same time with an intimate feel. I could happily spend a day here eating, the menu is fascinating and well executed. I had mutton and it was succulent and delicious. The whole party was happy with their choice and no fault could be found with the food. The wine list... More

The bread (and butter) pudding is worth every pound and all the calories. The custard poured over the pudding is so delicious. Everyone should try this English treat. Trust me, it's worth it!

Visited on Sunday morning for Breakfast and was really disappointed with the food. I had eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce was really vinegar-y and just made the dish taste horrible, such a shame as the ham was proper ham and the eggs were poached perfectly. My boyfriend had the full English and it was also really disappointing, the hash... More

Despite the efforts of developers and Boris Johnson Spitalfields still maintains some character and is a draw for both tourists and people like me who love London. This restaurant manages to combine an old established feel but is also relaxed in a much more contemporary way. It has tables and also booths where you can have a meal and hear... More

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
