We are regular customers of Chettinad and have been missing their distinctive dishes during lockdown, so we were super excited to see that they are now open for take-away and home delivery! The menu offers a very good choice of dishes, including dosas and classics like Gobi 65, and our food arrived piping hot to the door. Everything was just so tasty, with the special Chettinadu spicing that sets these dishes apart from other Indian cuisine. Absolutely delicious! It is so important that we support our local independent restaurants like Chettinad at this time, so that they are still there for us when we are able to go out again.

This restaurant has an amazing offer for a takeaway lunch box. On the menu is curry, dhall, yogurt dip, rice and roti or chapati. It's a small portion of each item, but the box itself seems generous. I was afraid it woudl be stone cold by the time I made my way back to the car in 2 degree temperatures and drove home, but in fact was still warm when I got there. The lamb was tender and nice. The spices used in the dishes were unusual and tasty. For a sampler of what this restaurant has to offer I'd recommend trying one of these lunch boxes. On weekdays you can also get a Curry box with a full portion of curry, or a Thali box that includes several different chutneys/dips in addition to a curry and rice. I went in person because because of the big cut that places like Uber Eats take from restaurants like this. If everyone uses these services, then the restaurants are going to have to compensate somehow. I much prefer to go in person where I can assess the friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the premises, etc.

A delight to visit Chettinad again. I've been many times since it's opening, and it never fails to please. Great South Indian food and atmosphere, and mein host from Kerala knows how to create a great experience. As lovers of vegetarian food they have great choice but I can also recommend their seafood dishes too. Looking forward to returning very soon

I happened to visit this restaurant in Sept 2021 along with another family. We had constantly asking the staff to get atleast starters and Kids meal, but they only said restaurant is very busy and did not get our starters until 1.5 hours of waiting Hardly there were 5 tables full, not sure what is the definition of a busy restaurant. Plain dosa arrived was almost burnt (Darkest color). Poori was Flat, Full of oil and did not even puff. Other dishes ordered were kind of Okay- not great I would say. I would never come back to this restaurant due to high waiting time & quality of food. Restaurant should hire more chefs/supporting staff if they think they cannot handle even this bit of crowd. Keeping us wait (that too with children) is not at all acceptable. Note: My friend argued and complained about the quality of dosa and poori, they finally waived off the price. But my question is First of all why such degraded quality of food served? Money is not the criteria, proper service and quality of food is !

Not having eaten there for a while, a friend and I decided to pay another visit over the Bank Holiday weekend and it was quite busy, but despite not having made a reservation we were still accommodated and the staff were friendly and welcoming. On the whole we enjoyed our meal but there were a few minus points: We requested a jug of water but had to ask for it three times before it came. We decided to share a portion of bel puri for starters as we remembered the portion sizes were always quite generous, and while it was tasty and nicely spiced, there was so much puffed rice on top that it resembled a bowl of Rice Krispies. It would have been better with more of the potatoes etc. For mains we both ordered biryanis - chicken for my friend and lamb for me. They took long time to come, but when they finally arrived they were nicely presented in a plantain leaf-lined bowl and accompanied by three chutney/sauces and a crisp poppadum. Although my lamb was rather chewy (and I even had difficulty getting a knife through it), it was all very tasty and my friend said her chicken was quite tender. After that we were too full for desserts but in fact we weren't asked whether we would like any, which was perhaps a slight omission. The prices are extremely reasonable and despite the above niggles, I would definitely go again.

We visit this place whenever we go to the DeMontfort Hall for a concert for dinner. The restaurant and toilets are clean, the staff wear masks, there is hand sanitiser on the door. The restaurant specialise in food from Southern India and as such is quite different to many of the other Indian restaurants we have been to. The food is really unique and interesting and the depth of flavour is fantastic. We loved our meal so much last night that we took a takeaway home with us for tonight as well! The vegetarian selection is also excellent. You can see the staff are smiley behind the masks that they are wearing and the service is very efficient. We can't wait to visit again!!

My wife had been craving a South Indian Thali and we found Chettinad restaurant online and went to try it. Having many bad experiences with Indian restaurants, I warned her not to expect authentic flavors as most places they water down the flavors to cater to a larger demography. We were warmly welcomed by Ashwin and we placed our order and the young lad advised us that we were over ordering and helped us in menu selection. The starters and the Thalis were perfect to the point. It's the same as if we were eating in India. 10/10 for keeping the authenticity. Bravo

We arrived early Saturday evening without a reservation, and although the place was packed, we were quickly found a table. As others have mentioned, the menu is not what you get in a bog-standard curry house, so if you are unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine, you may initially feel a bit outside your comfort zone when ordering. We ordered a veg thali, Aadu Chukka (Lamb), Pepper Chicken and Mushroom Rice. It arrived in a reasonable time and was very tasty and enjoyable. The portion sizes seemed about right; the lamb starter (highly recommended) was actually quite a generous helping. Service was generally prompt and friendly up to the point where we asked for our bill which we had to chase. Prices are reasonable for both food and drinks - our bill for two came to £50 including three drinks one of which was a pint of beer. So far, so good. There are a couple of negatives though. Firstly, I am not a fan of the decor which is a bit brown and dull for my liking, with a ‘feature wall’ of rustic dark timber. Secondly, and this is why I have deducted a star, the maintenance of the gents toilet left a lot to be desired and needs sorting out. Apparently the ladies was not great either. Overall though, an enjoyable meal and we would return.

We booked an early table at 5:45 to give us time to eat before a visit to demontford hall. The service was a little slow but the food was excellent. We had the 3 course vegetarian fixed menu and everything was delicious and it is great value for money. The restaurant seems popular. It became busy while we were there with quite a few theatre goers popping in. The menu is extensive and excellent, gluten free options are available and the southern Indian style is a refreshing change. We loved it and can happily recommend it.

Found this restaurant on Google, and as I’m a big fan of South Indian food I thought I’ll give this a try. Go to be honest, was a waste of time. First of all the service was terrible, had to wait ages for the food to come. And then when the food came it was terrible. Not one dish tasted good, the chapatis we ordered were dry and seemed like they were made a while ago and left on the hot plate while they were cooking our dinner. It was like eating cardboard. An absolute terrible experience I would not recommend this to anybody. Usually when reviewing restaurants I tried to find something positive to say. In this case, I am lost for words…

I visited the restaurant with friends for dinner, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was truly delicious- flavourful, fragrant, and aromatic. Staff were incredibly friendly too, and knowledgeable about the menu and full of recommendations. It was quiet when we went due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions, but the restaurant kept its friendly and inviting atmosphere.

The food was amazing as always. Unfortunately the service was absolutely shocking. We chose to go here after visiting Melton Road for Diwali due to the queues on Melton Road. We attend this restaurant on Saturday 11th November 2 adults 3 children, we were sat down near a family we know very well. They ordered 5 minutes before us. Their food came out after 15 minutes, I expected ours would be another 5-10 minutes based on our time of order. The restaurant was reasonably full, but not at capacity and lots of people were finishing up. After 30 minutes we checked were our food was, to be told it was busy and it would be here soon. At this point 2 tables were seated after we had ordered received their food. Upon questioning this we were told it is because they had just ordered Dosa. 3 out of 5 in our table had ordered Dosa, 1 Cauliflower 65 and 1 Prawn Biryani. After another 10 minutes we still hadn’t received our food, another 2 tables had received their orders, after pointing this out we were told our food would be there within 10 minutes. It was. The other family had finished eating completely by the time we even received our order. Worst service we have received in a long time, 1 of only 3 parties in the restaurant with young children. A wait of 50 minutes+ for food is unacceptable. Staff when asked didn’t care citing how busy it was, it wasn’t as busy as they made out, normally you would receive a discount for poor service. None offered. We wont be returning anytime soon based on this service and lack of basic customer care.

Decided to try this place out because all the great reviews. We were very disappointed, got the meat and veg thali, for the meat one only got some soup that had one piece of lamb which was mostly bone. My dosa was soft and even the roti was not freshly cooked, it was reheated and dry. The portion sizes were really small, two of the curries were like water and I only had 3 prices of paneer in another curry. Dessert was the smallest gulab jamun I’ve ever seen. It’s really not worth the money and I wish we had just gone to our regular Melton Road to have a freshly cooked hot crispy dosa. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone.

We stopped here for a Lunch after having travelled up from Petersfield in Hampshire. Had looked at this restaurant on line read the reviews and seen the menu. Got here and got the table for two straight away. Saw the main menu and also the lunch time Thali. I ordered the one with chicken and my wife ordered the one with lamb. The service was very good and the food arrived piping hot and looked excellent. Drinks were Diet Coke and salt Lassi. It all tasted amazing . Really authentic. Made me feel I was back in Kerala in India. We also had the Vada. Totally brilliant. We are looking forward to coming back in the evening and try some of their main dishes. They all look and sound great. Would definitely recommend this place for a freak meal. Can not wait to come back.

Myself and two friends had lunch here recently, and I have to say it was one of the tastiest meals I have had. It’s so nice to enjoy traditional flavours and to try something different. The staff were very friendly and attentive and happy to provide doggy bags, so my husband enjoyed it too. Would definitely recommend and would visit again.
