Searched this out based on a Rick Steves recommendation that said that the locals love this place. Very true. By the time I got there at 5pm it was fully booked for dinner and the open pub spots were starting to fill up. Be sure to make a reservation - yes, I know it's a pub, but you'll need a... More

We found this to be an excellent place for great food and good service. It is a very popular eating place and for good reason. The pub has an intimate atmosphere and I enjoyed seeing the traditional bar area and also the interesting photos of the district on the walls.

Many years since I ate here and it has lost nothing of the great reputation it has always had. Good service and good food. The bar area is only small so if you want to eat on an evening without a booking you need to get there early. Good mix of food choices and some lovely beers.

Booked for early Saturday in May. Excellent pub standard food. Steak pie (awarding winning) was excellent, and serving was nice and hearty. Service a little slow but there was a warning / apology on the menu, pub was very busy at the time. Overall excellent value for money.

Called in for a mid-week late lunch and were the only ones in but the place was fully booked for the evening. Food was very good indeed and we had steak pies and scampi. Pies were obviously home made. Thankfully the chef was still there when we ordered pudding even though they officially stopped serving at 2pm. We had the... More

Stopped off here en-route to keswick, ordered a drink and an open sandwich, food was delicious, portion sizes great and the triple cooked chips simply lovely. Proper quaint country pub with great food.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here a few nights ago. Always busy so maybe book if you don't want to wait for a table. Reccommend the beef madras or salmon from the specials board. Dog friendly too!

This a pub which serves a very large range of meals. There is an extensive menu and also a variety of specials. We can recommend the Lamb Henry and Hake. Wild boar is not recommended. Pork pate starter very good.

Great sized dining room with lots of ante chambers catering for afternoon tea, tea and scones etc. The outside space was very inviting too. Lovely atmosphere and the locals were friendly and gave good recommendations on the menu. The food was wonderful. Above the usual pub grub standard. The staff were very helpful and allergies were catered for with no... More

Popped in for some late lunch and had a couple of nibbles and a drink. Thoroughly enjoyed the fish Goujons and my husband like the baguette. Found it to be a little pricy but a very quaint little place!
