Lovely pub and like most of Keswick it's completely dog friendly. I had the large goulash which was hearty and filling. My wife had the stake sandwich and our dog had a bit of both. Good selection of ales and the Woof and Bang ale which is made specifically for the pub is highly recommend.

I have eaten here on countless times and have always managed to get a table eventually. (A good sign of good food/beer usually). However, as we had guests staying with us, I thought it wise to reserve a table, only to be told we don't take reservations and that our best bet would be to turn up and they will... More

Always stop here for a few beers when in Keswick. Lovely plates of food too at reasonable prices. Sometimes hard to get a table so we tend to call in late afternoon when it is less busy. Very clean and service is quick.

Stopped here for a drink after by-passing a couple of other places in Keswick. Didn't know anything about it as first visit to Keswick. It was very busy, but we liked the bustle and chatter and the fact that local people were in there, not just the tourists. Wouldn't go for a quiet dinner as there wouldn't be much (quiet,... More

Saw write-up in Rick Steves and made it a point to seek out the pub. Pretty much a pub as expected. Wife had her first Pimms and we had the opportunity to chat at our outside table with different folks on holiday extending yesterday's Bank Holiday. Whenever you have the opportunity talk with e person(s) next to you...it will help... More

I was so excited to take my family to the Dog and Gun over bank holiday weekend, it's always been my favourite Lakeland pub with such a vibrant atmosphere. My family loved the range of ales and menu choice, sadly one member of the bar staff was so grumpy that it spoilt our whole visit. No inter personal skills and... More

Popped in for food after a day in the hills, still love the Goulash, can't comment on anything else as I've never strayed from it! They had a try with reservations a while back but have stopped so you just wait until a table is free, doesn't take that long. I am often there solo and it can be awkward... More

Good range of local beers. Traditional pub and traditional pub food. Outside space if sunny weather!

Average at best! World famous goulash, I don't think so. Tried it 3 times now and it does not live up to their hype. Even the garlic bread was just bread with garlic butter on, not toasted. The pub has had some refurbishment and it's been done well, but the cost of the drinks is reflected on this, so expensive... More
