Saw the sign down an alleyway and decided this was the place for us to eat. Lovely lady (believe the owner) welcomed us. It was like dining in someone's house. Loved the ambience. The pate starter was superb.smoked mackerel with beetroot was ordered too. The risotto was lovely as was the slow cooked braised lamb. No room for pudding.

What a little cracker this is. It's was packed on the Friday lunchtime that we visited. I had a vegetarian curry with Bombay potatoes, my partner had soup and a sandwich and our daughter had gammon egg and chips. All 3 dishes were fantastic. Delicious and freshly cooked. Great value. Great service. Great find!

Arrived on Saturday without a reservation. Served by pleasant helpful staff. Had two courses which were cooked to perfection. Small place, but what they do they do very well.

A group of around 15 of us pre booked a midweek 3 course meal including coffee for the modest price of £17.50 per head. The food was superb and plentiful, perfectly cooked veg. The staff could not have been more helpful and efficient, yet there was a lovely unhurried atmosphere. Will definitely return.

We turned up on a Saturday evening without a reservation but were immediately shown to a table and given the menu. This unassuming little place has a small menu and wine list but we enjoyed everything we chose; a starter of olives and ciabatta, crispy duck main course and crumble and custard for dessert. All the food we had was... More

Had a wonderful late lunch with my godson and his mum. The lady who served us was absolutely fantastic. Not only did she bring the child's food first, she was incredibly friendly and helpful, even providing us with some bread to feed the ducks and directions on where we would find them. The food was delicious, especially the puddings! So... More

Cosy old fashioned setting a bit cramped. Staff very friendly and quick. Cheese savoury sandwich not generous filling, eggs Benedict one no sauce one sauce on side. First one came swimming in sauce. Other Meals finished by time order arrived well cooked salmon a bit tasteless.

We found this restaurant by chance as other places were full. It was a really busy weekend as there was a rally in Kendal and an unexpected high number of customers. The lady who served us was lovely even though she was serving everyone in this small, pretty restaurant, and having to negotiate a flight of stairs with each service.... More
