Just had lunch today in the restaurant. Lovely warm atmosphere and welcoming attentive staff. Had food from the a la carte menu and it was all excellent and innovative. This is the second visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We went with group of friends. The place was quite so the atmosphere was slightly on the dull side to be polite. We did enjoy the wine and the starters and mains were hit and miss. Some were fantastically presented and full of flavour whilst others with disappointing especially for the price (or perhaps our bad choices). Desserts were okay... More

Our experience, from a couple who eat out regularly: Our visit to Castle Dairy represented some of the finest dining we have enjoyed in a long time. The restaurant is in a 14th century Grade 1 listed building, a charming quirky old place with an historic ambience, right in the centre of the city. We chose the Christmas taster menu,... More

Took my wife here for birthday lunch. We'd been once before a few years ago, which was also an excellent experience. The service from the pleasant, very professional and helpful young staff was impeccable. The food, what can I say! was just devine. All this in a 16th Century, very quaint building. We hope to go back a lot sooner... More

We had a lovely evening at the Castle Dairy and would return. The service was professional and we dined midweek so the restaurant was not busy. We understand it was the head chefs night off. The food was not the best we have had but taking into account that it is students that run the restaurant we made allowances. All... More

Starters and main course excellent desert sorry to say was disgusting and did not eat it runny chocolate mousse with far to much rose water taste like I was eating a rose bush. Service was good although a little slow atmosphere was very poor only me and my husband felt like we where an inconvenience.Wanted to really like this place... More

The Castle Dairy for me is the heart of fine dinning in Kendal ... The Lake District . The building is one of the oldest and prettyest in Kendal.. Part of the restaurant has a floor made up of an original Roman road. We have eaten here many times but today sampled the new christmas menu. The Cep risotto and... More

Quirky building, oldest in Kendal built 1400s, lots to see and unusual environment. We had the £45 per head taster menu with 6 courses, amazing food. Taste sensation. If I had to criticise anything, I would say the ambience and environment is a little strange, not a cozy romantic setting, and the wine needed chasing a couple of times. The... More

It is some years since we have been ti the Castle Diary and judging by lunch yesterday we have been missing out. The food was first class, well executed and imaginative. The service from the apprentices was also very good and you can't not fault the surroundings in Kendal's oldest building. If you are serious about good food then it... More

What a wonderful little place this is. The food and service were top notch. The history of the old dairy to the castle is there to see along with the youth of Kendal Collage catering students. We did Sunday Lunch but id go for dinner or brunch as offered. Quiet, classy and food to rival Hipping Hall (they do a... More
