I'm not even a cake fan, I know that may sound strange to most people! However I can always be tempted by the Rattle Gill Cafe. The cakes are truly homemade and they are wonderful. My only complaint about this place is it's not big enough so you can't always get a seat. We visit the Rattle Gill every time... More

My husband and I came here for a cup of tea with our young daughter. It's a small little cafe but we did ok with our pushchair. It has a lovely atmosphere inside and outside overlooking a stream, beautiful spot to be sitting outside. We initially wanted to order the cream tea but the scones were not vegan so settled... More

After having ridden three times around the Ambleside one way system looking for a lunch stop where i could sit outside, I spotted the sign for Rattle Gill, followed it through an alleyway and came upon a lovely little cafe away from the road and set above a river. A perfect spot. What a cracking find it turned out to... More

Found this gem by accident and so happy we did. Excellent food. Small, homely restaurant with wonderful staff. Couldn't fault it in anyway. Dog friendly.

Very small place, but not cramped at all - you might have a problem getting a seat inside. Tea and coffee are prepared with care and good quality. Food is lovely. There isn't a huge menu but plenty to satisfy everyone and all fresh and well made - very tasty, including local ingredients and supporting local businesses. Also a nice... More

We wanted somewhere quiet and out of the way for a spot of lunch. This was ideal tucked out of the way. Ourselves and the dog were welcomed in no problem. Waitress was very friendly and helpful and allowed us to sample the soup before we ordered (It was homemade and gorgeous!). The place is quite small but very homely... More

We stopped for lunch in Ambleside and spotted a sign for this place. It is tiny but we were lucky and bagged a table near the door. We were met with a friendly greeting that set the tone for our meal. Both our meals were delicious. Wholesome, hearty and very fresh. The atmosphere was convivial at all times with the... More
