From the beautiful glow in the window on a very gloomy evening Thompson at St Albans was a very cosy welcoming view in this quante little town. I was sat near a window seat which from my perspective was the best seat in the house....More

As a long time customer of its previous life as Darcy's, I have been keen to give the Thompson incarnation a go, but have generally found it to be a bit pricier than Darcy's. Anyway, I had reason to try out their taster menu recently....More

We are more or less regular visitors to Thompson's, and booked a lunchtime table last week to celebrate my husband's birthday at a charming and friendly location. The team managed to find his favourite 'treat' -- scallops -- so he enjoyed his special lunch even...More

I booked Thompson's for my Wife and I to celebrate our 21st Wedding Anniversary as I wanted something special and because she has an aggressive wheat intolerance which Phil and his team cater for with their Gluten Free options. Well, we weren't disappointed. We are...More

Description
THOMPSON St Albans offers a relaxed and affordable fine dining experience, without the pretence sometimes associated with formal dining. Here, you will find a classic and tranquil setting, ever-changing menus that are dictated by the seasons and a selection of fine wines, carefully chosen to expertly match dishes. Chef and owner Phil Thompson utilises his classic training, along with his natural skill and ability for creating delicious flavour combinations, that showcase his own modern style. The restaurant is popular with large groups and can cater for parties and celebrations. Alternatively, the terrace and conservatory are a great place for dining outside in the sunny months; the quaint Victorian-style courtyard, with trailing ivy, honeysuckle, shrubs and flowers, can host up to 20 guests and is offered exclusively when the conservatory is booked. Private parties can also be held in the 52-seater restaurant upstairs.
