One of my best friends visited me in St Albans this weekend who is gluten free, so was conscious to find a good gluten free friendly pub. That’s when I stumbled across the Cock Inn’s menu, which I was delighted to find they offer a...range of meals (not just salad!). The food itself for both gluten free and normal was so delicious (maybe my favourite chicken burger ever now!) and service impeccable as well. Once we finished dinner, we headed to their outside area to watch the England football game and service was just as good outside as it was in. So glad we found this little haven and would definitely recommend - I know I’ll be going back!!More
I visited just before lockdown eased for a Friday night beer(s) in their outside area. We booked prior attending and we were also called to confirm our attendance. The whole process was really slick as was the checkin process on arrival.
The outside area had...a great buzz about it, plenty of tables that were all full but you were not on top of each other. Good mix of clientele.
My main driver for writing this was the excellent waiting staff, really attentive, really funny and just seemed to want to take care of us without being overbearing. Well done!More
We had a fantastic Sunday roast yesterday. Could not fault one thing. Loved sitting outside under the heat lamps. Everything available in half-portions for kids (burgers!). Highly recommend the Cock Inn!
We enjoyed late afternoon drink in the Cock Inn
Staff very attentive and keen for customers to enjoy there drink under current circumstances. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the weather this time of year. Not complaining but maybe better patio heaters or fire pit...might heat up outside area. Obviously don't know what constrictions the pub is under costs or health and safety. Please thank your staff for a nice couple of hours after shopping in St Albans.

Tom, Thank you for your review. We are indeed delighted to have reopened! We appreciate your positive feedback regarding service. We do have heaters for the majority of tables in the garden but not all at present. When making reservations, many customers specifically request a...More
Have previously enjoyed the food at this pub and had pretty decent service. Today we dealt with (I believe Dimitri) who, on the telephone, booked us in for an outside eating order 5-7pm. We arrived at 5 and were told we could not order food...until 6 as the kitchen was closed. At 6 this same staff member (or potentially manager) came over to tell us that we had to move table to a different one and we can only stay for 30min longer and we’re also unable to order any food. On saying we would just get the bill and leave, he then provoked my partner into an argument in front of many at customers and continued this whilst we were walking out of the pub. No apology was given, in fact he was demanding an apology from us because ‘we did not look happy’. Absolute joke. We won’t be returningMore

Nabil, It was very disappointing to receive a review suggesting the business should consider the dismissal of a staff member. We note that this is your second review following your visit. Your first review (posted with a different username) was removed by Tripadvisor as it...More
When the Cock Inn could open and during very difficult circumstances, the team did a fantastic job in making myself and friends feel safe and welcome time and time again. Having to deal with people who vary in their understanding of the COVID rules and...what you can and can't do must be extremely difficult but they did it brilliantly! Thank you. A truly difficult job for all of them. Great service, food and atmosphere. One of the best pub/restaurants in Hertfordshire.
A big shout out to all Hospitality staff too!More

Parking can be found within a few minutes’ walk. There is a large NCP multi-storey car park in Drovers Way, in addition to 30 spaces in Adelaide Street which has 1 disabled bay. A taxi rank is situated 20 metres away
