We visited on the first weekend we were allowed to eat inside for my daughters 30th birthday. The first thing that strikes you about Verzon is how lovely the staff are. I visited in the afternoon to drop off a cake and balloons and they could not have been more accommodating. The meal its self was delicious. When eating out there is often a tension between myself (small appetite) and my partner (hearty appetite!) but not so at Verzon as there are hearty meals and small plates. The chaps had the sliders for a starter, I cant wait to come back and have these for lunch. My daughter and I had the trout starter- all well seasoned and delicious. Three of us opted for the Chicken Kiev, a new and very welcome addition to the menu. It was moist and beautifully flavoured with wild garlic, the Jersey Royals and pea fricasse were a delightful accompaniment. My partner had the Haddock and Chips and was so pleased to see a curry sauce on the side! The wine list is short and to the point we had a selection including Champagne, red and rose! This is a local enterprise in all senses of the word - mention should be made of the fact that, despite the very upmarket atmosphere, the prices are very reasonable for such a high standard of local produce, lovely surroundings and friendly, knowledgeable service.

Went with a friend today to meet her brother at the Verzon. We'll we had a wonderful lunch. The chef told us about the fresh bream and haddock, so 2 of us had haddock and 1 bream, the fish was so fresh and cooked perfectly. Staff were all so friendly and helpful. I will definitely return, this is not my first visit and definitely won't be my last. Thanks for a lovely lunch

Perfect setting for a romantic getaway. Lovely little bar with some unique drinks. Food in restaurant is 10/10 very well presented and great taste. Rooms great size, in room en-suite think about moving toilet to wardrobe space, marks on wall/carpet, 7/10 not bad. Take a tour to the distillery 15 min away, amazing only £20 each including transport and tour 10/10. Spend some time and effort on rooms and this will achieve an easy 10/10 every time trust me.

I booked a table for lunch online at 9am for lunch the same day. We arrived, I was on crutches as I have recently had a hip replacement. I waited for a while at the reception and when I explained we had booked for lunch they were not aware of the booking. They were apologetic but it wasn’t a great start We were invited to go to the bar for a drink which we did and chose our food. I had booked for a table in the bar as the restaurant has no ambiance when it is quiet. It took quite a while for the food to be prepared and we were then offered to either share a table in the bar or go into the empty restaurant.. we chose the latter, though it was cold in there. The food was good when it arrived though I felt it was pricey for the amount and quality

We had stayed at The Verzon almost 6 years to the day previously. Our experience this time around was at 2 ends of the spectrum . The hotel is very sad , tired and tatty around the edges . We started with such high expectations. The only room available was the small double, how bad could it be at £200 per night ... Bad !! No wardrobe or hangers .. The smell !! The receptionist described it as 'Fausty' . The worn out bed , The flat rancid pillows , The postage size poundshop towels , The luke warm shower . We tried to make the best of a bad job and asked for hangers and replacement pillows . Our complimentary hamper never materialised . We then attempted dinner , as an apology they comptd the pre dinner cocktail even though this was included in our room rate .. Dinner was a disappointment. Food was tiny and had spent too long under the hot lamps due to poor service . The best dish was the cheese . The wine list was so limited with average wine thankfully at average prices .. The dessert arrived still frozen . The staff spent the entire evening apologising . 'Housekeepers on Holiday' 'Chefs call in sick' 'We're relying on agency' The inexperienced team tried their best but to quote a waiter at another table when asked about menu choices ' I don't know sorry I've never tried it , but I know it's all good ' This really isn't good when charging £10+ for starters and £20+ for mains. The farce continued when they had to hunt for fresh pillows and we retired to bed . The worst night's sleep , we had to prop the window open to combat the condensation and unbearable smell of damp. We got up for breakfast and the final straw was the dirty crockery . I explained to the reception team that we were really not able to stay a second night in such circumstances , she apologised again . On checking out we still had a bill of £275 for a poor meal and dreadful nights sleep . Thankfully we were able to book the Hotel du Vin in Cheltenham for our second night . Perhaps the family need to spend some of that Diageo Cash on a much needed refurbishment .

We were among the first to visit the restaurant after they reopened. We were very very impressed at the social distancing - the best we have come across. All staff were wearing masks, and there were small side tables where food was placed. The food, as in the past, is outstanding. We really can’t praise the welcoming staff and fabulous food too highly . We highly recommend a visit and we will certainly return.

I visited with my husband and at the time, we were only allowed to eat outside due to Covid restrictions. We were really impressed with the decking area which was stylishly covered, which was a good job as it was raining fairly heavily. There was a good heater warming us up and fairy lights made it seem cosy. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was all delicious - especially the vegetarian main of wild mushroom and garlic tagliatelle. I thought it was all reasonably priced and I would highly recommend.

We had a superb lunch served by charming knowledgeable staff who made the whole meal a delight. We started off by sharing pigs in blankets - three little chaps that went down a treat, this was followed by mulled cod for myself, an interesting combination of textures and flavours, hubby had the chicken and ham hock that he said was first class. Moving on to our main courses, chef here was on top form presenting loin of beef on a truffle mash that was simply divine and pork belly that was perfect, moist without being fatty and full of flavour. The portions are well judged but puds would have been just too much for us.

We visited for dinner and were blown away by both the food and ambience. We opted for several small plates including the baked garden beetroot with cernay goats curd, the treacle & soy cured chalk stream trout and the duck salad. We tried the white chocolate + mascarpone sundae, cherry parfait and chocolate delice for dessert. Everything we had was utterly delicious and brimming with flavour. One member of the party opted for a mocktail and as it was unavailable, was kindly made a delicious alternative featuring honey-turmeric apple cider vinegar. Well worth a visit!

What an amazing experience we had at Verzon House. Booked a table to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday and wanted somewhere a little bit special, while on a weeks break in Hereford and Verzon House did not disappoint! We were allocated a separate dining area and we were well looked after by all the waiting staff and bar staff. Lovely wine recommendation and the food was absolutely superb. It is difficult to satisfy 8 adults and there were no complaints across the party. The sliders were so flavourful to start and the excellence continued, we particularly enjoyed the Mac’n cheese croquettes and the beetroot with harissa and feta, which offered an opportunity to try something different. Carry on doing a brilliant job and we will definitely recommend to anyone coming to the area from Wales and will be back.

Verizon House have just initiated a Gourmet burger and pizza evening every Thursday and we booked in for their first opening 3 weeks ago. The food was not only delicious with local produce but the location totally stunning outside under their tasteful canvas dining area which looks out over the garden. We were so impressed we booked again last week and what an atmosphere, every table apparently booked and the food every bit as good as the first experience. They even had a guest brewery on site doing beer tastings, totally brilliant. The pizza came courtesy of their new pizza oven, beautifully fresh and of course, just had to have a Herefordshire beef beef burger as well! The desserts are to die for, just gutted we are away on holiday next week otherwise we would go again! If you fancy it, make sure you book, this week every table was pre booked so avoid disappointment and look forward to a relaxing evening.

We have just returned from a stay at the Verzon, We arrived at 11am and had coffee before going on the Chase distillery for a tour. We returned at 3pm, the kitchen had closed but they very kindly arranged for a cold meat and cheese plate, which was beautifully presented. and we sat by the fire in the bar to eat it. It was a bit chilly but COVID requirements say that places need to well ventilated so I quite understand that a few windows need to be left open. All the staff wore masks. We had booked an evening meal which was beautifully presented and delicious. The portions are quite small but a little goes a long way sometimes. The cocktails were amazing!! The staff were delightful and went out of their may to make us feel welcome and their attention to detail was exceptional. Every single member of staff were extremely attentive and personable including the lady who was cleaning the rooms and the lovely man who kept the grounds tidy. We will definitely be back in the summer and hope to enjoy the outside decking area. Thank you all for a great start to our Christmas.

Wonderful fine dining in a Michelin restaurant. We ordered the set lunch it includes a choice of 3 x starters, 3 x mains and 3 x desserts or cheese. The menu choices we had are shown in an attached photo. Also see attached their 'keeping you safe' procedure which is given to you on arrival. Highly recommended, this was a totally delightful experience.

There were eight of us for lunch and we were given a private dining room which was perfect. Some of us arrived early and had coffees in the adjoining lounge area which was furnished with leather armchairs. So far, so good. The lunch menu is quite small and somewhat unbalanced. There are two fish dishes two steaks but no poultry. Let me say straightaway that the service was exemplary. Friendly but most importantly accurate and knowledgeable. However everything is done at a snail's pace. We sat down at one o'clock and left at nearly four, having had two courses and coffee. The portions are small. If you are hungry, go for all three courses! My fish was OK, although the batter was a touch soggy. The chips were a big disappointment, luke warm with an unusual flavour as was the crushed peas. Most of us had the rhubarb dessert. This was lovely......very strong, fresh flavours but oh so tiny. A couple of mouthful and it was gone. Summing up, this is a very traditional English hotel and restaurant and overall we had a good time. But don't expect great food and give yourself plenty of time.

The setting of the house is gorgeous, the feel inside is cosy and beautifully presented, staff are friendly helpful and professional. The food is really quite wonderful. Beautifully presented. All made from scratch. All pickles, chutneys, custards ice creams etc. They make their own sourdough, jams and jellies. The menu is well priced, celebrating local produce, and food delicious and presented with taste and panache! I thoroughly recommend!
