We were looking for a simple nothing fancy dinner and came across this little restaurant. Excellent steak, cooked beautifully soft, melts in the mouth. Lovely chef.

The Bistro at Cardynham House is a great place to get well presented tasty food at reasonable prices . There is a feeling of quiet elegance with the crisp white lace tablecloths placed on dark wood tables. The menu ranged from simple sandwiches to more elaborate dishes such as wild boar - a little on the meaty side for a... More

Our family party of eight stayed at the Cardynham for 5 nights and ate here every night. The food and service was excellent every time and could not be faulted in any area. Really, really first class in every way. Many thanks to the couple that run the bistro for feeding and looking after us so well.

Enjoyed my time in this restaurant. The owner is a Romanian lady who is warm and bubbly. We ordered 2 starters, Pan fried chicken with prunes (which we had to return as the chicken wasn't fresh) and a smoked salmon and avocado one, which was delicious. The first starter was replaced by a smoked salmon and avocado as well. The... More

We had dinner at the Bistro which is decorated in a traditional bistro style, the owners clearly not having much interest in recent restaurant decorating trends. The food feels home-cooked: large portions, served without care for presentation - this is about substance, not style. There is no sparkling water, just small bottles of Perrier (the green ones, not the blue... More

We popped in for dinner during our stay. The staff were welcoming and the restaurant bright but still cosy. Plenty of options and plenty of specials. We found the food a little pricy for the size however thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the food seemed fresh and of good quality.

Busy week locally, tried to get a meal at a local pub and no tables available, Stumbled across The Bistro ! From outside we wondered if it was worth going in. Well, glad we did, great service, fabulous food...we asked for a pepper sauce with steak (not on menu) chef made one fresh which was amazing. Would go back like... More

Great food, lovely people. I recommend the beef stroganoff as it was delicious. Very pretty, warming open fire and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit and it is a hidden gem.

We had a meal here last week when staying in Painswick. It was a gloomy and rainy night, yet the atmosphere here was warm and cosy. Food is good bistro-style food, with a good range of dishes. One of us had fabulous halibut with capers and lemon butter which stood out as excellent, and the toffee and pecan roulade was... More
