Mouth watering menu

I visited India lounge with friends for my birthday and it was one of the best experiences. The food was exquisite and not to mention how nice the staff were. On top of the government 50 percent discount we were given an extra 10 percent birthday discount which made my day. I highly recommend this restaurant and my favourite item was the freshly cooked salmon. Yummy

Really Good Indian

Visited the India Lounge restaurant yesterday and must say it was worth the visit. The service to food was outstanding and the waitering staff were very attentive. I live in Gloucestershire and can't believe I've never come across this restaurant but will most certainly return again.

First Visit

I was highly delighted with everything The India Lounge had to offer. The food was excellent & was served in lovely surroundings. The staff were very knowledgeable about the food, which enabled me to make the best choice, which was not disappointing. I will definitely be returning.

Missing items, mediocre curry, poor customer service

We ordered over £100 worth of food and some items didn’t turn up. When we rang the restaurant to ask them to send it, the person laughed and didn’t take our complaint seriously at first (although we did eventually get the missing food). The curry was mediocre at best, but the one good thing is the items that arrived did arrive fairly quickly. There are definitely better curry houses in Cheltenham who deserve your custom better.

beer shamed!

The food was okay at best, and if that was all I had to say about the place, I wouldn't bother writing a review, as Cheltenham has a fairly good selection of "okay at best" South Asian restaurants, you can take your pick. The service on the other hand, is worth noting; it was poor, to say the least. There was just a bad vibe amongst the staff in general. Just an irritated, rushed and vaguely resentful feeling, and also it seemed over staffed, but with a coterie of I guess the "higher-ups" mostly standing around the bar doing nothing but shooting angry glances at their underlings and customers. There was some angry sighing and scratching out of misheard orders when our order was taken. On my way to the loo a member of staff all but pushed me out the way in a corridor, which was a bit rude. There was one waiter who was making an effort to be friendly and charming, but it was only directed at one couple whom he seemed to know, and to be honest, call me a scrooge, but was a bit too much, a bit fake, and only served to highlight the sullen misery of the rest of the staff. One of the odder things that stands out is that when ordering drinks, my date (a woman) and I both ordered beer. The waiter asked us what size and we both asked for a large/normal size bottle (of course, duh!), to which the waiter responded to my date, as a statement rather than a question "a small bottle". She, being a woman of her own mind, naturally replied "nope, big". As if in an attempt to re-right this imbalance of the natural order, we were both brought big bottles of Cobra (or whatever it was), but I was given a pint glass, and she was given a little bitty glass. It was quite comical, really, and I'll let you come to your own conclusions as to why the waiter thought this was appropriate, but seriously, get with the plan! There are plenty of Asian restaurants that get around their ethical dilemmas surrounding the serving of alcohol by simply not serving it, and that is fine and I think commendable. But misogynistic beer-shaming is not the way forward! Again, if that was the only incident I might not have bothered writing a review, but it was the case that there seemed to be some kind of bad people management going on, and really, even if the food were amazing, I still wouldn't want to eat there.

Aggressive, rushed service. Didn’t feel like valued customers

Been here many times over the last 10 years and sad to say, but it’s likely to be a good while until I visit again. Had a table booked for 4 at 9.30. From the moment we arrived, we were rushed by rather rude and fairly aggressive waiting staff. None of the friendly service that was so obvious when collecting takeaways during lockdown. That seems to be a thing of the past now the restaurant is open to diners again. At 9.55 I had had enough and asked when they were closing assuming it was imminently. No, they close at 11pm and I was told “so you have a little bit of time yet”. We were halfway through our main courses by this stage and were well on our way by 1030. It just felt like we were a hindrance but the place was far from empty and we weren’t holding anyone up. Seriously, in a really competitive environment, your service is going to have to improve drastically or your regulars will vote with their feet. I will be heading elsewhere next time. On the plus side, the food was as good as ever so it’s a real shame but I don’t think I’ll be rushing back. My fellow diners feel the same way. Pity.

Service was a shame

Still sat here right now - had high hopes of a meal here having heard good things. The curry sauce itself was OK but £16 for 3 prawns in a curry was a bit surprising. They hurried us all evening, which as locals was a shame, it was clear they wanted us out so that they could pander to the race crowd this weekend. Probably won't be back as a result, maybe they should think about how they axt during service and how it might impact usual times rather than just race meetings.

The bill appears to have been inflated by £20 before the £10 per head was deducted. I have also checked the menue outside the restaurant and the online eat in menue prices. I asked for a copt of the bill and could only get a total with no items. I would not recommend this place and regret leaving a tip.

Splendid meal

We booked India Lounge for a Saturday evening meal and from the moment we got there until we left the whole experience was excellent. The staff were welcoming and friendly, we were given a nice quiet table, we were well attended to and the food was top notch. We would come to Cheltenham again just to visit this place again. Whilst it may not be the cheapest, you get what you pay for and the wonderful experience totally justifies it. Full marks!

Efficient Friendly Service, delicious & varied menu.

Table was booked for Gold Cup Friday and their service was excellent considering they were extremely busy. The menu is varied with the usual favourites and also a good range of fish curries, which can be limited in other Indian restaurants. Would highly recommend. Situated in a lovely part of Cheltenham too. We will return.

Rushed Service and Late Meals

Yesterday, I returned for a meal with friends, only to be disappointed once more. Despite the lack of busy crowds, the meal arrived late, and the staff, including the manager, seemed insistent on rushing us to finish our meal quickly and vacate the premises. The behavior of both the establishment and its staff struck me as peculiar, to say the least.

What a great find in the heart of Cheltenham. Well worth a visit.

What a fantastic experience we have just had at India Lounge. It is rare that service and food quality are of an equally high standard. The service was so engaging from the beginning and the curries were of an equally high standard. My son thought it was the best curry he has ever had. High praise indeed. We will be back.

Not authentic food and very sweet main dishes

Very disappointing food. Starter platter was rather bland and without flavours and the restaurant tried to give us something else instead of chicken pakora which we pointed out. The main courses we had were both very sweet and not as described in the menu - one should have been mild and one medium spice but both were just sweet. One was with coconut and the other one was mint. My recommendation is to go to Bombay & Co instead. We couldn’t go there as it was closed on the Monday we visited Don’t waste your time and money and don’t go to India Lounge.

Relaxed and Friendly Service with Excellent Food

One of the best Indian restaurants in town and even when very busy the srvice is excellent. Our server was lovely and gave us some excellent tips on dishes. He even modified a couple for us so we all got exactly what we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble and they don't rush you through courses. Traditional decor and very comfortable with tables not too close together. The food is consistently of excellent quality, freshly cooked, fragrant and full of flavour. Love this place.

Decent food and fantastic service

Great value for money and brilliant service. Our waiter who was a very smartly dressed and polite young man (Rushil) was fantastic. Having had many Indian meals in Cheltenham so far this was by far the best service. Many thanks to the team and chef at India lounge
