Lunch at the Jolly Poacher is a delight. All the staff are very amiable and attentive. The resident chef really cares about the quality of the food he serves and the prices are definitely good for the quality. I would not say that the portions are small, but this is not a giant portion sunday roast pub - somewhere to... More

Three of us booked for Mother's day lunch. They had 3 courses ( £25) I had 2 (20). now here's the thing...Most of the food was wonderful, well cooked and presented. However it's the miniscule portions of food that I'm complaining about and it's that that brings their rating down. 1st course quiche was lovely but not much bigger than... More

I love this place. the food is superb, the wine excellent and the staff are lovely. One of my favourite restraints in Brighton. There are two chefs. One will do food exactly to my taste, and the other has a tendency to over-salt slightly. Not to a degree that becomes a problem, but just a touch too much for my... More

A large group of us went for a Sunday roast today. The food was tremendous, especially the pork belly. The service was great - which wasn't easy because we turned up with more people than booked and were generally disorganised. We really appreciated the service with a smile!

I feel extremely lucky to have The Jolly Poacher just around the corner. I have had several mid-week lunches, dinners and a Sunday roast and they have all been fantastic. My last visit was last week and the venison main with fondant potatoes was executed excellently. The venison was served lightly pink and was very tender, the potatoes, veg and... More

Had the 2 for £15 sausage and mash and it was very tasty with great gravy. Happy hour 4-7 and nice little pub for a meetup in a good location near the station

The Jolly Poacher is literally 5 minutes away from where we live and as they were offering a New Years Eve food and general jolly up we decided to give it a go. £49 per person for 4 courses in my view given the time of year was reasonable. The food was excellent well cooked and tasty. The only 2... More

Christmas dinner at £35 should be good - but by the end we felt our wallets had been poached. Not jolly at all. A bread platter with dolls house size loaf on it, for sharing between six. Starters good; mains decent tho' with a very thin offering of veg on the plate. It's Christmas! Maybe some roast potatoes or even... More

So we spent £55. One starter, two mains, two glasses of wine and one pint of beer. I'd say that's pretty expensive and you would expect something reasonably good. What we got was bland and lacking in style. Only one beer available (admittedly a nice Harvey's) and I think a pub should have more than one type on tap. The... More
