The clan gathered to celebrate a 21st birthday (the birthday girl being a medical student at Brighton) and we had booked a table for 13 in the restaurant on opposite the Melrose on the seafront. Incredibly the manager of the other place which I shall not name had given away half our table as we were 12 mins late!!!! So... More

Our lunch club, had a fabulous afternoon of good food, copious carafes of wine and perfect attention from both Mary (Joint owner ) and the waiting staff. The seven of us chomped through a range of mains, Sea Bass (excellent), Cod 'n chips , Mushy peas and chips - perfect and the home-made apple pie and ice cream was a... More

It's easy to get overcharged when it comes to seafront restaurants, but the Melrose is a little gem. It was a special occasion so two of us had lobster, and the waiter was very funny, joking about catching them himself. The rest of the party enjoyed their fish and chips and the sea views are lovely. Can't beat the service.... More

This place is overseen by the watchful eye of the owner Tony who started Melrose almost 50 years ago and Roxana (waitress) who has been working there for almost 15 years. The menu has not changed since it started - which says it all. When you walk in, it is a bit of a time warp back to the 1970s... More

Visited on a Thursday in March. Looked a bit shabby from the out side ! Went in, table for one, joys of travelling along. Service was quick, but unhurried. Starters of Scallops at 6.50 ! Excellent. Then the mixed fish platter Excellent. Pint of lager and all for less than 20.00. A bargain and very good food. Would I recommend.......... More
