My wife and I have chosen to eat here a couple of times and really like the place. It is usually fairly busy and has a good atmosphere. The food was very good.

A group of us planned a lunch-time stop at The Artichoke, next to the Canal. We were in need of sustinence after cycling 20 miles & we were made very welcome. The place was buzzing with customers enjoying either a Christmas Lunch or a casula lunch. All seemed to be enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, the variety of beers & the... More

Going to have to be honest... was quite disappointing... " roasters" were very undercooked and hard, parsnips were tasty but had to ask for extra, "turkey" appeared to be catering meat which can not really be classed as real meat in my eyes, gravy was really watery and tasteless, carrot and swede had an orangey zingy taste to them which... I booked a table for Sunday lunch for my husband, brother, sister in law and myself. It was very quiet for the first thirty minutes or so, but after an hour was pretty full. So best to book at this time of year. I was slightly concerned that the seating might be uncomfortable, but it seemed to be ergonomically good... More

On route to London from North Wales had a stopover in Chester for a night and was taken here for lunch. The mulled wine was fantastic and the food was really good. We asked a massive favour of the staff as we were three 'helpless' ladies with luggage that we didn't want to trail round the shops and were returning... More

Had Christmas lunch. It was delicious, especially the sticky toffee pudding which was the best I've ever tasted. Good atmosphere and good service.

The Artichoke was a fabulous choice for our first evening out in Chester! We had just got engaged and I had booked us a table there. We started with a couple of wines enjoying the cosy atmosphere and admiring the many gins on the menu (they have hundreds of choices... A true gin lovers paradise). We had a wonderful meat... More

First time I have been to the Artichoke for Sunday lunch but it won't be the last. Best I've ever had, beautiful tender beef, loads of different vegetables, a couple of gravy boats and excellent service. Fantastic value for money.

We took another couple here who were visiting from Scotland. The service and food were really great. The pizza especially was delicious. They didn't have prosecco which we wanted but their alternative Cattin Cremant D’Alsace was delicious if a wee bit pricey! Me and my boyfriend have decided this isn't a place we would necessarily go for a romantic meal... More

My wife was away this weekend, so I took my two youngsters - 3 and 5 - for a walk along the canal as far as Artichoke, where I treated them to sunday lunch. Really warm welcome from the chap behind the bar as we entered the premises - he even complimented me on my backpack! Our waitress was brilliant,... More
