Just out of lockdown and in the company of a party of some my wife's Yorkshire relations, we were nine in total and felt that the Tavern in the lovely village of Ardler would suit everyone's taste in country fare and hospitality ... and our plans bore fruit.  On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the hosts and their staff who bent over backwards to satisfy the nine different combinations our palates required.  There is an extensive menu and, clearly, both cheffing and service staff there with full capability for handling this and the other diners they had attracted to their enterprise. Everybody's a winner in such splendid company ... and thanks were due to the silly incumbent Chancellor, who, once more, footed half the bill ... we toasted him anyway.

4 Adults with 2 dogs camping in Alyth booked the tavern for a mid-week evening meal. The entire experience from start to finish was first-rate. We were welcomed and taken to our table – good COVID reduction measures were in place. Meals were served in good time, fresh and flavorsome. Sticky toffee pudding was amazing! All portions are generous with the option for a smaller platter which suited my 89yo father. The steak pie was meaty (as opposed to 4 chunks plus meat flakes in gravy which you get in some other establishments). Limited but nice Scottish craft ales were on offer. We will be visiting from Fife again to celebrate joint wedding anniversaries at The Ardler Tavern – guys; well done keep up the high standards of quality (service and scran) we will be loyal patrons (2hr round trip and worth it).

This was our first visit but definitely won't be our last. A friendly, relaxing place to eat with a varied menu. The food was freshly prepared and arrived piping hot and all three of us were very happy with our choices. Unfortunately none of us had room for dessert, which will mean a return visit soon, as the pavlova we saw coming from the kitchen looked delicious. All the staff were extremely efficient and helpful, but definitely a special mention for Roderick - very much enjoyed our chat about the American south. Highly recommended.

Extremely warm welcome which is the thing that brought us back four times in one week. Our first visit was just for a drink or two, but we felt very welcomed and the service was one of the friendliest we've had in all of Scotland so far. The kitchen even took pity on us as we hadn't realised they stopped serving food at 8pm but the still did us some chips which were great. Similar thing the next visit we just had drinks and sadly they were all booked up this time (it was the weekend). We booked in for the steak night later in the week which was alright. Unfortunately the steak was a little over for both our orders (rare and medium-rare) but let it go as it was cheaper than usual being steak night, the sides were good, and cheese sauce great. We came back again on a Saturday lunchtime to try their famous steak pie. We had starters: both the soup and the trout pate were tasty, fresh and plentiful. Unfortunately the pies we're a let down. For the price they were really not good at all. The filling was tasteless, basically no seasoning. The advertised puff pastry was almost certainly filo, and only the top few layers were even cooked, the rest raw pastry. The mash was super hot (I'd guess it had been reheated in the microwave) and veg very lackluster. When the waiter collected our hardly eaten off plates he commented we'd 'left the best bit' as in the pastry- anyone serving food, even if they can't cook themselves should be able to tell the difference between raw and cooked pastry, when pointing out it was raw we just got an apology but nothing else. Just simply not good enough. Left disappointed and cancelled our subsequent booked table for later in the week.

Place was quite busy on arrival we both ordered the soup which was delicious my partner ordered the cheese burger with bacon and I ordered roast chicken with skirlie. When they both came out they did look nice on the plates. My partner after a couple of bits of the burger it was very pink inside said to staff and the reply we got it's safe to eat this certainly put both of us off our meals maybe some people like there burgers like that I really don't know considering this and the cost let's just say it was a very disappointing meal we personally will be very careful what we oder in future also will just say chicken was just cooked and no more very disappointed as the first time we were there meal was fabulous

We visited the Tav as a party of 4 for Christmas meal. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and helpful. The meal was amazing! We opted for the Christmas menu with the option of 2 or 3 courses at a very reasonable price. We all had different starter, lentil and ham soup, tomato and basil soup, pheasant spring rolls and cheese souffle. Everyone loved theirs. Next we opted mainly for the turkey with all the trimmings. The turkey was succulent and had lots of flavour. The plates were over flowing with roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls and lovely vegetables. One of our party had the venison and it looked so rich and apparently tasted wonderful. Desserts were to die for. Profiterol sundae, tablet cheesecake and amaretto creme brulee. I had the cheesecake and it was massive and tasted wonderful. We declined tea or coffee as we were all so full and asked for the bill. All of the food and drink ( they also do real ales and cocktails) came to under £110 for our party of 4 which I think is amazing value. If I have any complaint it is that the portions are too big! Will definitely be booking again soon.

We have eaten here regularly for many years under two owners and have never been disappointed. The food is always excellent with very generous portions. During lockdown Alan and Clare enterprisingly did takeaway meals to the same high standard. The restaurant is spotless everywhere with toilets recently refurbished beautifully. We couldn't recommend them more highly. It's our go to place for family celebrations too.

This is a proper pub offering great beers and absolutely fabulous food. We dined there last week whilst walking the Cateran Trail and were blown away by the ambience, friendliness of the staff and the food. Glorious offerings and hearty, generous portions. A varied menu with some unexpected high notes, such as the king prawns wrapped in filo pastry on the Specials board. But the overall winner was the Steak Pie. It was superb: tender, tasty steak in rich gravy and wonderful pastry atop. This is pub food at its very best. If you're anywhere near the area, please don't miss it!

the food was bang on what we ordered but my main delight about the day after a very long hike was the service of this young handsome man called andrew. He was a delight and honestly was the best service we have had in a while. the owner felt a bit snide to us so we tried our best to ignore him but andrew was brilliant hopefully he goes far. As for the locals we felt right at home after all we shop at millets too and love people in hiking gear. Will 100% recomend love S.

Was recommended to come here by the Perthshire dog page on Facebook and so glad we visited! First time we had 3 courses and needed rolled out the door. The portion sizes are very generous- even the smaller size and the food is of great quality. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Mum and I visited with our two dogs and couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. We returned the next day for lunch and again the same great service and food. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a visit but call to book as it’s very popular.

Visited for the first time today - 26 November - going on the recommendation of a friend. We were not disappointed. Great selection on the menu and specials board. Food portions were extremely generous, came piping hot and value for money was outstanding. Friendly, unfussy service. Highly recommend.

We tried this country pub/restaurant today for the first time, wow. Hidden away in a small village off the beaten track, this is one of the hidden gems. The reviews we saw were all 5 star, which it deserves. A comprehensive menu plus a specials board 5ft high! Don't be in a hurry as all the food is freshly cooked and worth waiting for, we had spicy wings and baked camembert to start, wings well spiced as i like them, but may be a bit hot for some, the camembert was perfect and gooey . Followed by their own real steak pie with proper pastry crust - not off a delivery truck frozen! the scampi was excellent and the thick cut chips were crispy and wonderful. We will certainly be returning.

We had lunch there yesterday in it's very relaxed setting. The menu offers a fair number of choices with smaller portions available on most items. The breast of chicken with "Skirlie" , mash and veg looked good and was very tasty. My wife's steak pie (smaller portion) was just as good and fairly large in size. The pleasant attentive staff followed all the "Covid" guide lines. Alas I was driving but noticed they had a reasonable selection of Malt Whiskies available - will be back with someone else driving.

Very good pub with excellent food. Lots of locals, lively. My wife had the steak pie (speciality there) and I had pork loin with reduction sauce. Both were big portion sizes and quality meals. We had the dessert - fresh strawberry cheesecake. Came with local ice cream and made with local fresh strawberries - it was fantastic.

We had been here before and enjoyed the food so came back just before Christmas with family members. The food was ok but the service wasn’t friendly and it was obvious they wanted the table back with the speed they took our plates and brought the next course. The older waitress hung around our table after we finished eating waiting for us to leave. We went to pay the bill at the bar and were going to pay individually but the bill was already rung up and presented to us. I paid it hurriedly and we left. On returning home I checked the bill and realised we had been charged for 2 pints we didn’t have. One had soft drinks and my daughter and I had wine. To make matters worse they actually charged me £2 more than the till receipt said. We gave them a cash tip of £12 so it was nothing to do with the tip. I emailed them when I was home to explain what happened and sent photos to show their mistake. They didn’t even have the courtesy to reply. I have emailed again today a week later and will call them tomorrow if I don’t get a reply. The food is not cheap so paying another £12 on top of our bill was very disappointing. I know these things happen but not to reply is rude!
