Although the occasion to visit The Cormorant was due to a wake, I found this pub to be an excellent venue. Very clean and tidy, good food and drink and it had a lovely atmosphere. Not too far from home and will try and visit...again.More

Excellent home cooked food, well kept beer and a very friendly staff. What more could you want from a pub restaurant. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub and very friendly staff with a great environment. The only problem we encountered was from the landlady who was very rude and, what some made describe, vile towards me and 2 friends, due to someone who was also present that we knew vaguely....I’m not sure what the situation was or the history of their relationship, but to shout and be extremely rude to unrelated paying customers who see this pub as our local, should be addressed. This is not the type of behaviour I would expect from anyone, especially the owner. We had a member of our party who doesn’t drink and is not very comfortable with social situations, so for someone to react like this unprovoked, was very disheartening and upsetting. Please work on how you speak to people in a polite and welcoming manner, as this experience was very negative and will make us think twice before returning, alongside recommending it to others.More

I have visited this pub on a number of occasions this year and have never been disapointed. There is always a good variety of food, which is hot and well cooked. The staff are always polite and attentive. Can't praise it enough.

sat outside on benches with my elderly mother, went into the front entrance as per sign board to get a couple of drinks and sandwiches. Stood waiting to be served about 20 minutes, by the time they spoke to me they said I had to...sit outside and wait to be served, which by that time a lot of other people had turned up and were already being served before me. I asked if I could just order it in the bar and was informed that she could get me the drinks but i had to order food whilst outside. We waited outside for the waiter , who then did not return again and he had not asked my Mother if she wanted to order anything whilst she was sat outside waiting for me. I had to go back to the bar to order just the drinks and told her that she had lost a sale for food. We shall not be returning. Awful way to run a bar if you sit outside. She mentioned it was due to covid, but all the people outside had to go and queue by the bar to pay their bills, so what a load of nonsense. We would have had another drink and food, but didn't like the lack of service. They were all over their locals and forgetting us. Weusedtousethispubalotyearsagowhentheyhadtheoldstaffwhocouldruntheplace. Now its become a bind and not a meal out. We won't rush to return.More

We came to see the castle & a short walk away was the Cormorant pub. The pub has a reasonable size car park which was busy, lucky we walked! The inside was much bigger than it looked from outside and most tables were taken. A...waitress found us a table and we ordered good pub grub and a pint. Nothing fancy but it hit the spot and was good value for money.More

I visited The Cormorant with a large group. We were made welcome with friendly and efficient staff. I ordered ham, egg and chips, and was not disappointed. A very generous plateful. I declined dessert, but some of the others made their choice and, again, huge...portions which were enjoyed. Thank you Cormorant. I will be returning.More

I went with elderly relatives for Sunday lunch. We were pleased we had booked as others without a reservation were being turned away as we arrived. We were given a lovely table in the window, sat down and took in the surroundings of this big...and busy pub. The volume and number of people at that point was no problem, until the two families arrived at the tables next to us! Despite these two families being on separate tables, they bridged the gap between them with their chairs so they could all mix, and in the process blocked any access/egress for us. I have nothing but sympathy for parents with kiddies who are upset and making a racket because they are tired/hungry/uncomfortable etc., but these kids were actually just enjoying shouting at the tops of their voices and at no point did any of the (also very loud) adults even attempt to shush them a little. Anyway, aside from this our drinks came and we were surprised to see there were no starters on the menu. Still, the Sunday lunch main meals arrived and were nice and tasty, nothing amazing and not the biggest of portions, but overall fine. The service was a little slow but our waitress was very busy and she was really pleasant. Unfortunately, by the time we had finished our one course, the volume of our neighbouring tables had become unbearable and we were getting agitated at not being able to hear each other speak despite being huddled together by this point. We decided we wanted to leave as quickly as possible, had to chase the bill a couple of times, had to chase again to be able to make the payment of the bill and then finally got up to leave, which was no easy task given we needed to request the people move to allow us through and then I had to clear to the side all of the toys which were scattered over the entire area. The pub cannot help or be held responsible for the behaviour of these people around us, but it really tainted our whole experience of The Cormorant. Had some other aspect been amazing it perhaps wouldn't have felt so bad, but given all of this was happening and everything else was pretty average, I doubt we will be going back.More

I booked a table for lunch within the next few days. Sounds good but the viewing of the menu online is challenging. Will be a surprise! The food was good and the portions generous. Trad pub food not very imaginative. Table service was adequate. Witnessed...an rude reprimand of some customers who hadn't adhered to the instructions on the sign at the entrance and had ventured past the 'reception' desk. The place was almost empty. Courtesy goes a long way. I would have walked out. Don't think I'll walk in again.More
