It's lovely to find a dog friendly cafe and we stopped for lunch. As soon as we were seated the dog was offered a sausage which she took with relish and became a life long friend of the manager! Our lunch was equally relished and we really enjoyed it, the coffee was excellent too. I can't have caffeine and a... More

We have visited this tea shop in the past and had good service and an excellent meal. However today the teashop could not cope with its guests and we were waiting for over an hour and had to leave without eating. I would recommend to anyone who has plenty of time! It was only two of us but the teashop... More

As soon as we walked through the door, we were greated by very friendly staff, asked where we would like to sit (upstairs or downstairs) and given a menu each. Reasonably priced, and great food. I actually enjoyed their clotted cream too! The Tea Shop is also dog friendly. We also purchased a Lemon Drizzle to take away which was... More

Off the beautiful square is this fantastic tea room. Spread over two floors with a mix of chairs & sofas serving delicious cream teas, cakes & biscuits etc. Staff were v friendly too. Dog friendly especially useful if you are out for a walk in the lovely surrounding area, which we were.

I have been to the Alms House about half a dozen times over the last year. The premises is quite unique with it's old charm, nooks and crannies. Check out the local art for sale. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food tastes great. So if you want to brunch, lunch or just having a coffee, pay... More

My partner and I love coming here! The staff are great and always accommodating. The food is yummy and fresh. However the best choice is always the cream tea! Keeps us coming back 😀

We had a flying visit here today, as you can have free parking in the square for 1 hour. All day breakfasts are served along with soups, sandwiches, cakes and other things on the specials board. It's a beautiful building and a nice spot to stop for a bite to eat.

Many thanks for your equally charming review! It is a shame that your visit was just a flying one and hope that if and when you are in Axbridge again you can enjoy what we have on offer at a more leisurely pace. As well as the free parking in The Square that you mentioned there is also 2 hours... More

This lovely little cafe set in a beautiful old building in the middle of Axbridge is quickly becoming one of our new favourites! Staff are friendly, dogs are welcome, menu is varied - and the Belgian hot chocolate is amazing! Definitely worth a visit.

Many thanks for your shining review. We have a great team here at The Almshouse and they enjoy receiving and reading customers views. I notice that you enjoy our Belgian hot chocolate ... this is a definite favourite and is made simply by melting dark Callebaut Belgian chocolate drops into hot frothy milk. Thank you again and we hope to... More

Description
Our small, family run business is set in an original 15th Century Almshouse which is full of character and atmosphere. It is a relaxing place to enjoy everything from a simple cuppa to breakfast, through lunch to afternoon tea. During fair weather our secluded courtyard garden is a must see. The small town of Axbridge is found at the foot of The Mendip Hills at the edge of the Somerset Levels. It is just 2 miles from the much better known village of Cheddar with it's famous Gorge, cheese and caves. Axbridge is particularly popular with walkers & cyclists as The Strawberry Line runs through it's Medieval Square and we are dog and child friendly.
We hope to see you soon.
