A beautiful setting but the airbrakes of the trucks going down the pass can get a bit loud. The food is wholesome and tasty. I loved the roosterkoek

Hi Barry Thank you so much for your beautiful review. We truly appreciate it. It is harvest season in our area and we are all very happy for the farmers that this is a very good season. There are more trucks at present as they are carrying the fruit to the markets and elsewhere. Hope to see you soon. Best... More

We enjoyed our breakfast very much. You go there for the Rooster koek. Vegetarian options are very limited and Everything is served in enamel to add to the farm feeling. Service is polite and friendly. Bathroom is bit funny, one toilet and one urinal in one room for everyon, unless there is more facilities somewhere else between the bushes I... More

Our daughter and family from Townsville, Australia joined us for lunch. There was something for everyone, and the service was cheerful and appealingly personal. The sayings around the walls provided interest, and the rural decorations appealed. The food was good and suited our fairly simple tastes.

All I can say is that it was a blessing on the road. Food was excellent and their service was out of this world with friendly staff and quick service. This is a must stop for anyone on a roadtrip.

We didn't know about this little gem in the mountains and was so suprised when we stopped there. The roosterkoek and moerkoffie is an absolute must!! Good, afrikaans people with a great sense of humor. Loved the fireplace!!

We went by yest for lunch as tripadvisor rated it well. Was hoping for a quick stopover bite en route to langebaan. Took almost an hour to get food. Kids were already irritated. Ordered the roosterbroed chic and mushroom; rajbansi bunny and snoektert. Food was ok. Famous roosterbroed ws fresh. That's good. The bunny was not what Wat we Indians... More

If you love roosterkoek, then don't miss this delightful little place nestled between the mountains, in the Michell's pass (traveling to Ceres, from Wolseley/Tulbagh/Worcester). Plain good old "moerkoffie" is served in "blikbekers", and the roosterkoek are freshly made. During winter they make a welcoming fire inside the restaurant's fire place - an inviting sight when you want to escape the... More

This authentic quaint restaurant was a wonderful escape from the chilly wind on our drive to the Cederberg. We stopped and huddled by the fire and drank moerkoffie out of tin cans. The food was delicious! The menu promises mainly authentic South African food and roosterkok takes center stage. I went for the bunny chow roosterkok which was a beef... More

Description
Whether you're in Ceres for the cherries at Klondyke, the snow on Matroosberg or in the Koue Bokkeveld, the big-sky beauty of the Tankwa Karoo National Park and the Cederberg or a thrill-seeking day with Ceres Zipslide Adventures, make sure you stop over at Die Tolhuis Restaurant, without doubt the coziest restaurant with the best mountain views in the Ceres area. And if, like welcoming owners Reint and & Karien Grobler, you swear by the wise words of Mahatma Ghandi, "there is more to life than increasing its speed," you can prepare yourself for a mouthwatering 'kuier' that will keep you coming back for more.
