Great place to eat

We called on the off chance after being on the beach all day and was welcomed with a big smile and offered a lovely table for two even though they were busy. We had white wine which was reasonably priced, vine leaves as starter shared as there were six on the plate and a meat platter for 2 which had chicken, pork, sausage, lamb, pitta bread, chips salad. Irish coffee which was very strong, mojito and beer. Total was 70 Euros. Had a great atmosphere, with very friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Lovely food and great atmosphere

I would advise that you book in advance for this very popular restaurant. We had to queue and were given complimentary glasses of ouzo while we waited. We ordered saganaki and dolmades for starters. The saganaki was made with a yellow cheese that melted slightly. I haven't had this before and it was delicious. For mains we both ordered soutzoukakia. The meatballs were beautifully seasoned, and served with chips and rice. It was a sensible portion of food which we really enjoyed as we found many of the restaurants were serving huge portions which we were unable to finish. There is lovely and lively atmosphere here and I would recommend visiting if you stay in the area. Our meal with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon cost 51.50 euros and we finished everything.

Great Food, Better Owner

We stopped by for lunch after a morning at the beach and were welcomed with open arms by Angelo. He showed us the fish that were just brought in, let us choose what we wanted and gave recommendations when asked that were spot on. He even cut down a bunch of grapes from his vine for us to take with us at the end! Felt like we were family and we will be going back more than once while we are here. This is the spot you want to eat at folks!

Not as good as expected, we won't come back

A bit disappointed with the food as we had high expectations after reading the reviews. For dinner we ordered fried calmari and red snapper from grill. We got our meals in decent time. Both were served with few chips and salad of very average taste, the tomato peel was a decoration of salad. Chips were soft and you could feel the oil. Calmari were a bit overdone and tough, some pieces of fish had a bitter taste from the charcoal from the grill as the skin was burnt and made the bitterness despite taking it off. All in all a very average meal. We got rakii and dessert which improved our moods. The atmosphere was very nice and all the staff was kind and helpful. We would probably rate it better but my husband got sick at night after the dinner.

What a fabulous experience

What a fabulous experience ! We arrived at Angelos as a group of 7, with no booking. We were made to feel very welcome with dishes recommended, drinks plentiful, and Angelo on hand with a personal service to ensure we were happy with the food and he even brought more dishes out for free just for us to taste. He was a perfect host, warm, friendly and attentive, very keen to ensure we had a memorable experience. And keen to drink Raki with us. Thank you Angelo, we hope to return!

Amazing food at the amazing Angelo’s!

We decided to go to Angelo’s after looking at reviews on Trip Advisor as we wanted recommendations for vegetarian food. We were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were given a very warm welcome and Angelo advised on the many vegetarian starters and main courses we could have. The food was absolutely amazing, so fresh and extremely tasty. Excellent value for money as the starters are around €5. We had several cocktails which were so nice and actually had plenty of alcohol (not just fruit juice!). We had cheesecake for dessert made by Angelo’s wife which can only be described as mouthwatering - so light and delicious! We actually ate here on 3 occasions and each one was an excellent experience. Fantastic value for money with spectacular food. Thank you to Angelo & Ardi and all the staff for a wonderful experience. A must visit when you come to Crete. See you again soon from Tony & Amanda❤️

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing night

From when we arrived at Angelo’s to when we left, we had a wonderful evening! The menu was extensive and the food delicious, we had the mezze sharing plate for 2 which was filling and full of flavour. We then had a huge slice of tasty cheesecake. The highlight of the evening, however, was the service. Both Angelo and the waiter were always smiling, cracking jokes and very attentive. We were even treated to some raki which we enjoyed with both of them, a very nice touch indeed. Not only our favourite meal in Crete, but also by far our most enjoyable night. A must for anyone visiting Crete!!

[RO] Un restaurant excelent, porțiile sunt extrem de generoase și totul este proaspăt, ingrediente de calitate și gătite delicios. Angelos este un host minunat, iar împreună cu personalul fac o echipa mereu prezenta printre clienți și atenta, totul traducandu-se într-o experiență awesome. Am revenit cu drag și a2a oara în zilele petrecute in zona și am recomanda oricui sa le treacă pragul. Mulțumiri! [EN] An excellent restaurant, with fresh ingredients, big portions, everything was cooked deliciously. Angelos is an amazing host, and together with his waitresses they make up for an amazing team always present and attentive to your needs. We ate here 2 nights this week and would totally recommend to anyone around to pay them a visit. It was truly an amazing experience. Thank you!

My favorite restaurant in Chania

It is a lovely place with lovely food. Angelo is very proud of his restaurant and we had really nice time there. I have a lot of food intolerances and the owner was very understanding. Atmosphere and owner's attitude makes this place special. I can highly recommended!

Cretan hospitality at it’s best

Cretan hospitality at it’s best. You will love any of the fresh and delicious dishes served at this family restaurant. Angelo’s will make sure you are taken well cared and his wife will cook you the best cretan recipes they serve. Try the dolmates first to start, and then get some of the fish or sea food plates and share. The house wine is great, coming from a nearby monastery. We had to dinners here and will come back again.

Good fish and service but a bit touristic.

We went on this restaurant due to the positive reviews about the fish. We took a grilled fish and was really good and well cooked. They let you choose the fish they0ll cook for you. The side dish of grilled vegetables was a really small portion, could have been much more. Tap water and bread were billed while we had it for free in many other restaurants of the same level in the same area. Staff is very friendly and make customers feel good. Unfortunately the feeling was to be in a too touristic place with prices a bit overpriced of around 15%, but we knew the menu and the location.

Not so happy

We decided to try this restaurant but were disappointed. The starter fried veggies with tsatsiki was good but the grilled shrimps too lomg cooked, dry and difficult to peel, 17€ for this was not ok. Friendly service though. Orange cake with ice cream was good, my partner liked it.

Absolute best!

Perfect dinner with perfect hosts. Good size portions very well presented, good menu, fresh ingredients. I had the Angelo salad & vine leaves, my husband & son had Angelo's plate with garlic bread, & my daughter had Caesar salad with fried zucchini. Rounded off with some complimentary Raki. We well definitely go back

We, as a family enjoyed the food and the atmosphere in Angelos restaurant that much that my husband Tom and my son Ruairi, nearly ate him out of house and home! Angelo, as a host is exceptional front of house and his quality of food and service is excellent! This was our 1st visit to Kato Daratso, but it shan't be our last. As foodies ourselves and if you enjoy your fish and traditional greek cooking you must give Angelos a go. Keep up the good work Angelo and family, and Ruairi says he hopes you keep serving your cheesecake as we will definitely be back.

Warm welcome and great food!

This review is actually for when we visited back in June 2018... I just happened to be looking through holiday photos and saw a picture we took with the owner. I remember telling Angelo I would write a review ‍🤦🏻‍♂️ so here it is.... apologies it is over a year late 😂 I have to let people visiting Agii Apostoli/Chania know that it is one of the best restaurants in the area. Angelo (and his staff) greeted us with a warm welcome, he is an all-round decent bloke and was very attentive. The food was great (especially the fresh calamari) which resulted in us returning 2 other times during the stay in Chania. 5 stars! Cheers for the Raki!
