With the promise of eating exotic animals like stag, bison, and elk, we went to Aux Anciens Canadiens with high expectations. The restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel clerk as well. Great atmosphere and excellent service. The restaurant gives off an "old Canadien" vibe and you feel transported to Quebec of 200 years past. Big pluses for that. Good... More

We were two couples with an infant seeking warmth and good food on a cold bitter day. What a find--a fireplace, wonderful country food that has stood the test of time and great Quebec beer selection all made for a perfect mid afternoon lunch. And, the service--magnifique!!!!! Thanks restaurant staff for a memorable experience.

It was snowing gently, big ol' flat flakes coming down out of the jet black sky and we walked under the imposing gate of the massive walls of Quebec City. Shortly we found this delightful and charming restaurant. We enjoyed a veritable feast in a different tradition from American roast beef! It was a great treat, maybe something we will... More

We went there during Winter Carnival. The food was outstanding along with the service. The atmosphere is clean and neat and very traditional. The food was excellent. The menu contained a large amount of French Canadian traditional meals. I had the Grandma's Surprise which was excellent. We had been there during a previous visit at sat at the bar during... More

We went here in january 2017 and had a good meal with family and friends, including 4 young children. It is authentic traditional Quebecois home cooking in a lovely romantic setting- rather than a modern fining doing experience. It offers reasonable value- all things considered, especially the charming setting and lovely building in the heart of Old Quebec. Well worth... More

We went to this restaurant hoping to try out some authentic French Canadian cuisine. We got the fixed menu meal and every course was delicious and also very filling. We were both so stuffed by the end that we couldn't even finish the maple sugar pie and creme brûlée, which were also amazing. I was a little apprehensive about this... More

This restaurant is billed as an Old Quebec experience. My son and I went for lunch--a 3 course meal and beverage-- a very good deal. The ambience was cozy and charming. The food was tasty and satisfying, although this was not the best food we had in Quebec City where there are many wonderful restaurants. The service was warm, efficient... More

This was our first meal in Quebec City and it didn't disappoint. The building is charming and the welcome warm and comfortable. They have a fixed price menu which makes ordering easy and affordable. The house "biere" was excellent and our meals were delicious. My husband had the Quebec Meat Pie; the crust was fabulous. I had a large salad... More

Wonderful lunch with friends to start Winter Festival. Beer & Wine to start, Baked Onion Soup & Garden Salad (very special simple dressing) next, followed by Chef Special Sole with Cream sauce over Carrots & Potatoes and Salmon in Puff Pastry. Both delicious. Barely room for dessert yet we made it happen with Maple Syrup Pie and Sorbet. Very historical... More
