Great place for breakfast. There is a little bit of everything on the menu and the ambiance is great. Coffee is delicious and the staff is super friendly.

I visited Le Cartet with friends for breakfast on a Saturday morning and I think it can easily pass as one of the great places to put on your list while on visit to Montreal. It is located on McGill avenue, one of the most beautiful street in downtown Montreal towards the old port and the old district of the... More

I had breakfast at a few places in Montreal during a week's stay and Le Cartet on Rue McGill was BY FAR THE BEST. I can highly recommend the scrambled eggs with asparagus on whole-grain bread. (Vegetarians beware: The potatoes have been roasted in DUCK fat, but you can ask for tomatoes or salad instead.) The "English breakfast" tea (bags)... More

I'm sure it's good at other times as well...There was an interesting selection of breakfast items and ours were well executed. Take-out and packaged items available as well. Feels like this place is a mainstay for the neighborhood!

Just got off the plane from NYC and Le Cartet was our introduction to Montreal. Fabulous breakfast that was delicious and filling. Eggs toast granola salad - big portions. Service was friendly and fast.

I paid 17$ for a Salade Paysanne. It was small, had 3 tiny slices of ham and cheese, 2 small eggs and a tomatoe. Although this place has character, I won't go back. It's almost insulting at that price.

We were walking to the Port and ran into Le cartet and it was a very nice surprise. It was about a 15-min wait with a very mix old/young crowd. The food was very good and it was a lot more than we expected. We walked out very full and happy we found this spot.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
