Open casual space with a wonderful bistro feel. Service was great. We shared the cheeseburger and had a couple cocktails. That is the best burger I've had in a long time! So light & juicy. Thanks for an enjoyable experience Vallier! We will be back next time we visit Montreal.

My husband came in for brunch, location was beautiful and the service was good. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my eggs benedict. The poached eggs felt as if they came straight from the fridge, which is too bad, they looked beautiful. My husband's breakfast was slightly better, but his bagel looked and tasted stale. I think there are better spots... More

Went mid week and the place was half full. I had pork tenderloin that had delicious flavor but was overcooked and tough. Tried dessert.....maple pudding of some sort....fantastic. Effort was there...just fell a little short.

Enjoyed a late lunch here while touring Old Montreal. Great service and food in a pleasant setting. Shared a simple pasta carbonara and enjoyed two salads. A great little haven on a cold day.

Montreal the Grand French City at one of the entry points to English North America has lots of French bistros that will remind you of Paris. However, these Montreal Bistros can be quite expensive which is different from my memories of Paris where you could find some good French cooking at a reasonable price. The food at the Montreal bistros,... More

Much research by the wife placed us here close by to our hotel. The concierge confirmed it as a good place for the family. Nice atmosphere when we came in. One reason we picked it was because there were two items on the menu. One was chicken wings because our littlest eats few options and wings is one. The other... More

Hi Matt121976, thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, that's the only way we can get better. Since it's our first year managing this restaurant (new management since April 2016), it may happen that we make some mistakes in our inventory management. We apologize for the inconvenience. The interior design of Vallier Bistro is pleasant which makes it a good choice for a professional meeting or a date. The food was great but it was slightly overpriced for something that was not sophisticated cuisine, maybe because it’s located downtown. The service was alright but we had to call the waiters more than twice, because they wouldn’t come... More

The food was excellent and mid-priced. Lunch special for me was soup, stuffed pepper (quinoa) with a superb tomato sauce and fresh baguette. Plate-licking good. I was eyeing my friend's pasta dish and second-guessing myself on whether I had made the right decision. Very good house wine specially low-priced for lunch. Will certainly return. Large part of clientele that day... More

In Dec. 2015 we visited Montreal and had a nice dinner in Old Montreal. The trouble was - we were kind of lost and we just happened upon it and didn't make a note of the restaurant's name. Fast forward Dec. 2106 - we wanted to go back to this restaurant and after wandering around for a half hour we... More

Atmosphere was very nice. The food was good but way too salty, especially the fries and the salad. We had the beef tartare, medium in terms of spice and it was very nice.

Description
*UPDATE! Vallier now offers brunch on weekends!* Since April 2016, Vallier has a new look and includes a new concept : contemporary Montreal bistro. Vallier still offers its classics like the mac n' cheese and sheperd's pie, but has other new dishes. You'll see a lot of Quebec ingredients in our meals and cocktails, but also premium local beers on tap. All this without becoming too fancy. Vallier wants you to feel like you're sitting at your grandmother's table! Join us for brunch (on the weekends), lunch or dinner. We welcome reservations.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
