We chose this restaurant mainly for the fact that we could bring our own wine, I mean who doesn't love that! The food was amazing and the service was above and beyond what you get anywhere else. Make sure to make a reservation as it was quite busy the night we went. Recommend getting the steak and fries; can't go... More

Have visited this restaurant in the past but not recently. Perhaps I only remembered it being better but this visit was disappointing. The ambience and service were excellent, very friendly and attentive. The food was the disappointment. The stake was large but tough and over cooked and was severed with a mushroom sauce that was more brown gravy than mushroom.... More

A few of us ordered the Steak Frites dish, medium rare. The size is thick, which normally you would be happy about, but it was tough to cut and tough to chew. Fries were not bad. The green beans were over seasoned. Service was ok; nice waitresses but nothing impressive— did see one of them with their mouth chewing something... More

Some time ago we went to Steak frites on St Denis. We were happy. This place on St Antoine is a disaster. Don't even think about going there. Those steaks must have come from a camel who had run for 1000 years!

The name says it all. If you can't get steak and fries right, don't go for any thing else in this place. The venue is well located, the service is pretty quick, the food is good. Bring your own wine, this chain doesn't have an liquor license. Enjoy!

I like this place because it is engineered to please. Bring your own wine, steak, good portions. Nothing overly fancy and everything is done right. Not one bad comment from my mostly American bunch, who loved the location and went off to sightsee after the meal. Service was spot on ( as it usually is) and the steaks were quite... More

We were recommended to having dinner at Steak Frites by the concierge at Delta Montreal hotel. It was a perfect choice meeting our option of BYOW. We made a reservation but wanted to sit by the window so we didn't mind for the wait. The restaurant was off downtown but on a very quaint and nice area. Its deco is... More

One of the noisiest restaurants I ever visited. No liquor: be warned!!! All of our steaks were tender and tasty, but not special. The waiter strongly recommended the Dijon sauce, which was awful. The frites were above average. It came with some green beans which were perfectly cooked. We all left half deaf. I would not consider returning. Those who... More

I am used to the other Steak and Frites that are smaller and quieter, this one is big an you can barley hear each other talk. Way too much noise, I had a headache at the end of dinner due to the noise level and having to speak so loud to my friend. The service was very slow, the server... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
