Was extremely eager to come to this restaurant as it had been on my list of places to go in Montreal for many years. However, my recent experience here made me sure that I will never be back. While the food quality was phenomenal and the flavours were innovative, the service was shockingly poor. The wait staff blatantly treated my... More

This was my second dinner at Verses and I find the menu a bit pretentious. The offerings are filled with exotic sounding combinations that really don't come together that well. I enjoy breakfasts and light appetizers in the bar but think the dinner menu needs a rewrite.

We dined last night as a family at Verses. It wasn't our first experience there. For us, it is a fixture of a weekend in Montreal. The appetizers were wonderful, the rib steak rivaled any of those in Alberta, and the stuffed lamb was impeccable. The service at Verses is a highlight. Luc C has looked after our family before,... My friend and I had a wonderful time at Verses. We sat in a corner round-booth and chatted over wine. The staff, particularly Sebastien is very knowledgeable about the wine and offers as many samples as you need to figure out which is best for you. The service is fantastic and everyone is super attentive and friendly. Sebastien is an... More

We visited Verses restaurant both because of its excellent reviews and its location adjacent to our hotel, the Nelligan. It is clearly a high-end spot with attentive service and a mix of business clientele and romantic diners. We were promptly seated in a nice banquette and ordered off their single-page pick-your-adventure menu, including a understated but delicious octopus salad, a... More

When we arrived at our hotel, it was between the time of lunch and dinner. At first, the person at the bar said we couldn't have food. Then he said he'd check. We were able to get some incredibly wonderful sandwiches.

You walk in, dimly lit street lights and candles light your path. A gentleman greets you and requests your coats. He leads you to your seat and the experience begins. If you are looking for a romantic dinner for couples with good and rich food, this is the spot for you. Our waiter (Luke) was very friendly and offered plenty... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
