So I wanted to try poutine and we were led to this place. I want to like poutine, I really do...but it's hard to improve on fries, they are already so good. I have discovered that I am NOT a fan of poutine. Fries with gravy and cheese curd-it didn't make the fries taste better, in my opinion. You can... More

This location was easily accessible via Metro/Underground City. We there for poutine, but they had an extensive menu which made eating with those not wanting poutine easy. We had the Montrealaise with smoked meat and the Frite Alors with peppers, onions and mushrooms. Both were very good. My only issue was that the radio station that was playing included unedited... Upon entering, we were greeted and seated quickly. Waitress was extremely friendly and helpful when asked for recommendations. Generous portions and a great variety of food to choose from. Location and interior decor is a little dated in my opinion; however, it was a place to grab a quick bite with my friends for a fair price. Will be returning... More

Kind of a gungy spot on St. Catherine, below grade. Service is reasonably quick, some nice beers and pretty good poutine. Not excellent, but pretty good. A quick, cheap lunch.

Upon arrival, we were greeted and welcome immediately. We ordered poutine and grilled cheese sandwich with coleslaw spent C$31.62 between 2 (two) people. Restaurant and restrooms are clean and maintained. Interesting artificial fireplace as interior design.

We went to Frite Alors last night. It's located on 680 St. Catherine Ouest. We had a fantastic first experience at this restaurant. This is a happening place to be on a Friday night. It was busy but we were seated promptly at a booth. The menu consists of mainly burgers, sandwiches, salads and poutines. There is also the vegetarian... More

We just went to the Frite Alors restaurant tonight and had a good time there! The waiters were great (great service)! The menu is mainly about burgers and fries (great choice of burgers, served with fries and sauce). You can choose also your sauce. They also serve poutines and salads and have vegetarian options. The prices are reasonable for this... More

the name of the restaurant just caught our attention! we checked out the menu outside and... jumped in! what can I say? I was skeptical about the prices but... when I saw the size of the food I didn't find it expensive at all!! an enormous salad which came with 2 pieces of goat cheese and not one (!!!!), a... More

This was our second poutine. We asked a local and he directed us here. He said there were better but this was the best in the area. I mention this to point out a local thinks enough to recommend it. It's a chain but they do a good job. Quick friendly service and they checked back to see how we... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
