After visiting the Marché Jean Talon, my wife and I were looking for a casual sit-down lunch. Although we both noted the dated interior, we were greeted very warmly and some good recommendations made ordering easy. A couple of warm complimentary amuse gueules and glasses of very honest house wine, we both had very nice meals, and honestly some of... More

My family and I have been eating at Casa Cacciatore since 80's. The food is authentic Italian food. The decor is just original and the service is great. The food is prepared by two chefs that are always there to please. It's location is in little Italy which makes it all so perfect. I would not believe the negative reviews.... More

Not special what so ever. Asked us if we were ready to order at least 5 times within the first 10 minutes we were there. The bread is all crusty and awful, they interrupted us 20 times to refill our glasses non-stop. Food was edible, but not incredible what so ever.

Great food but bad service (bad waiters are a staple all around Montreal) they mostly share hideous attitude. We had a good Caesar Salad, great pomodoro pasta and lamb. Which was really delicious. But... Our water actually asked my friend that speaks french from France, if he spoke french. And I quote: Oh sogrry I thought you spoke french...so uptight.... More

We were in the market and figured we'd have an early dinner - found good reviews here and figured we'd try. We ordered a pasta dish each, and that turned out to be a mistake because the portion sizes were HUGE!!! We should've done the proper Italian meal where we'd get an appetizer, pasta, and meat dish to share -... More

We try to get back to this resto whenever in Montreal. They always deliver on good food. We like the veal dishes but pasta, seafood, & steaks are good too! Parking can be difficult but park further away and enjoy the walk. Especially thru Jean-Talon Market located at the back of the resto.

While wandering around Jean Talon Market today, we decided to have lunch at this resto. The terrace was not too inviting; dark and ugly, but we decided to go indoor. The dining-room was set with white tablecloths, but otherwise the resto looked like it was stuck in time from the 70's. It needed a long overdue update. Thankfully, the meal... More

Very nice family dinner with typical authentic Italian favorites. Superb service, but we were the only people in the restaurant with our late supper. Moderately priced 20-25$ per person, plus wine . House wine was good. Bruschetta given as appetizer was delicious. Nice cozy authentic Italian cafe feel. We would go back if we lived there.

We are foodies and don't give out many five stars but this place deserves it. Everything was fabulous from a simple Caesar salad, bruchetta (complementary), carpaccio, gnocchi, veal, & lemon chicken. Spot on. Just go here, you won't be disappointed!

We were taking some customers out for dinner while in Montreal and they indicated this was their favorite Italian Restaurant. It was rather plain from the street but it was comfortable with checkered tablecloths and tables of 4. The food was melt in your mouth out of this world. We started with the ANTIPASTO cacciatore for the 4 of us.... More

Staying in Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie

Neighbourhood Profile
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie has one of Canada's most prominent Italian communities, with Little Italy concentrated along the convivial bends of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard. Known for its fantastic bars and authentic Italian fare, the domain includes the Jean-Talon Market, the largest public market in North America. Open year-round, sunny months see fruit and vegetable stalls set up outside the main chalet, while blustery weather draws crowds indoors to meat and cheese sellers, spices and truffles stalls, and for regional delicacies such as rare Charlevoix lamb. While the market dictates what's fresh for local restaurateurs, visitors can please more than their palates, taking in the Renaissance architecture and frescos of Madonna della Difesa, the picturesque Rue Saint-Rominique with its cheerful homes and splendid gardens, or the ornamented thoroughfare of Plaza Saint-Hubert.
