I was taken aback by the rating on this establishment, but again as previously stated in my last review, I am very leary of basing any travel decision on reviews, as so much about an experience at a restaurant is timing, and good ole Lady luck with the waiter you are assigned, though after reading the review about the rogue... I was a witness to the incident that took place on November 11th in da Emma restaurant. I was outraged, appalled and completely taken aback by the actions of the waiter, Paolo, who served our table -- 11 women. His behaviour was absolutely intolerable and unacceptable. Throughout the meal, when ordering cocktails and while serving our main courses, this waiter... More

I had hears many nice reviews about this restaurant, but when I finally ate here, I have to say that I was very disappointed. The pasta I ordered was not tasty and had no flavor at all. our server was horrible and each time we asked for something, we felt as if we were interrupting him from his conversation with... More

Da Emma is in the basement of a very old building. It's a very appealing space even without an outside light. The menu is written on a chalkboard placed on an easal. The waiter called off the menu items in rapid fashion, which was a litle hard to understand. But he repeated the dishes we had questions about so we... More

I absolutely loved this restaurant and intend on going back soon. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours were simply phenomenal! The ambience as well made for a lovely evening in Old Montreal, definitely not to be missed. Mille grazie Signora Emma!

A large group of us (11 women) went to this restaurant for dinner after a day at an academic conference on November 11. From the beginning, thanks to our horrible, condescending waiter, Paolo, we were assaulted with sexual inuendo and crude remarks. In addition, he challenged every one of our requests--from splitting the bill (this WAS a business trip) to... More

Benoit of ChezDelmoTold us this was his favorite restaurant and to make sure we said hello to Emma. The restaurant has a delightful atmosphere and it's a place you can talk to be heard. We went into the kitchen and received a hug from the 75 year old chaps. The roasted lamb and veal chop was superb as was everything... More

Had been recommended this Resturant by it did disappoint slightly. The venue was great and we were expecting great things having seen all the famous faces who had their photos displayed on the wall. But the delivery of the menu was unnecessary and the actual food wasn't great. Also only two dessert choices. There are a plethora of restaurants to... More

I was looking forward to try this Restaurant. The decor was great. The appetizer was very good. However the main were simply ok. Service was average felt like our waiter might be having a bad day. Ambiance = Good Food = Average, pork a little dry and bland. Service = Ok I probably expected more based on reviews and price.... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
