We had high expectations for Da Emma due to its rating & online reviews but I must say... it exceeded all of our expectations. This authentic Italian restaurant is set in a beautiful location - the atmosphere and environment was perfect for our romantic New Years Eve dinner. The service is amazing - servers are wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. The... More

Such an all around great place. They really have it all, great food, Location, ambiance and service. We were a group of 5 for a friend's birthday. We had multiple appetizers, the artichokes really stood out. The lasagna is to die for (we shared one so that we could all have a taste). I had the veal picatta and it... More

There is little to gain by layering ad nauseam flavors, Da Emma understands that. Food tastes right, with its own complexity, no need to over do it.

This was the worst fine dining experience we have ever had; we were excited since the place had been recommended by friends and online reviews were good. What an incredible disappointment. The managers should be embarrassed. The waiter greeted us, took our drink order, returned 30 minutes later to take our dinner order. When asked for suggestions, the waiter grumbled... More

The setting is wonderful and we enjoyed the service. As for the food, it was good but nothing exceptional. But I am biased. Being Italian, my mother's cooking is hard to beat! For the non Italians it ican be considered quite good.

I was taken aback by the rating on this establishment, but again as previously stated in my last review, I am very leary of basing any travel decision on reviews, as so much about an experience at a restaurant is timing, and good ole Lady luck with the waiter you are assigned, though after reading the review about the rogue... I was a witness to the incident that took place on November 11th in da Emma restaurant. I was outraged, appalled and completely taken aback by the actions of the waiter, Paolo, who served our table -- 11 women. His behaviour was absolutely intolerable and unacceptable. Throughout the meal, when ordering cocktails and while serving our main courses, this waiter... More

I had hears many nice reviews about this restaurant, but when I finally ate here, I have to say that I was very disappointed. The pasta I ordered was not tasty and had no flavor at all. our server was horrible and each time we asked for something, we felt as if we were interrupting him from his conversation with... More

Da Emma is in the basement of a very old building. It's a very appealing space even without an outside light. The menu is written on a chalkboard placed on an easal. The waiter called off the menu items in rapid fashion, which was a litle hard to understand. But he repeated the dishes we had questions about so we... More

I absolutely loved this restaurant and intend on going back soon. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours were simply phenomenal! The ambience as well made for a lovely evening in Old Montreal, definitely not to be missed. Mille grazie Signora Emma!

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
