My son picked this place cause he wanted Steak & Frites. We have been to the original one in Old Quebec City and it is fabulous, the food the decor and the service. This one in Montreal was also very nice. It was a very snowy night and there were only 4-5 couples in the restaurant so there wasn't a... More

This restaurant serves steak only. Oh yes and it comes with soup. For big appetites I recommend the table d'hôte which includes soup, salad steak frites and profitéroles. Well worth it. Wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle. The service was prompt and courteous. I would recommend no problem....but as a frequent visitor to Montreal I really like... More

Got to get the Table D'Hote (Prix Fixe) with a great soup (I had the Leek soup, not overly creamy) and light salad. The steak is simple (I'm fussy about how it's prepared and they nailed my order perfectly) with a light house gravy, really unique and refreshing. The fries weren't anything to write home about but those "Profiteroles" for... More

This place has been around forever, and they continue to serve Montrealais with one single minded standard: Quality. The french fries are hand cut, the Entrecote is hand selected and perfectly grilled, the menu is limited but every detail is up to a very high standard. Had a couple family outings here, enjoyed immensely. Careful, a line starts to grow... More

A classic to visit per guidance from a friend who is a native. Certainly wasn't blown away. Steak a bit tough. Fries were also "meh". The secret sauce, as advertised, is delicious. Glad to have experienced the historical place. Could have gone elsewhere for better food options.

It is a little expensive if used as a daily (or even weekly) eatery, but when there is something to celebrate in the workplace, this is the place we go to. The quality of the meat is never compromised, the accompanying gravy is succulent, the profiteroles are among the best I have ever had and even their bread is good.... More

This restaurant doesn't serve fancy fusion cuisine. If you like good European-style simple entrecôte with good fries and, like me, from time to time, appreciate simple stake and fries, you definitely will enjoy this bistro. The menu hasn't been changed in 18 years since I go to this restaurant. Their entrecôte is always delicious and the fries are great too... More

This is one of my regular spots, an 'incontournable' in the Montreal eateries. At one point, when living downtown, we used to go eat there on a weekly base. The menu is simple, you only get to pick if you want soup, salad or both. Service is fast and courteous. Price is decent. If you don't look outside, you feel... More

Great place to eat. Interesting menu consisting of steak or bigger steak. We started with a soup and salad, both were very tasty - although I felt my soup was better than my wife's salad. The steak was cooked exactly the way we wanted and the sauce on it was delicious.

Whilst the meat was very good, the french fries were dissappointing. The oil used to cook them was obviously well-used and the fries left a bad taste. The carrot soup was acceptable and the salad with walnuts nothing to write home about. The service was good

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
