We went there for the 1$ oysters on wednesdays. i would say that the vibe is very nice and cozy, you feel like you're in a restaurant in cuba. but the food was not amazing - it was quite dissapointing.

I absolutely love this place. I love layout and design, love their choice in music, the food is always exceptional and the staff are professional and pleasant to talk to. If you like oysters, I definitely recommend going Wednesdays for 1$ oyster night. Their cocktails are pretty good too. Officially my go-to if I want a great night out for... More

My wife and I went to Cartel on a Thursday evening after work, without knowing much about it or without any expectations. The Tacos were out of this world! We had the chicken tacos - fantastic! The Asado beef were good - but the fish tacos were the "pièce de résistance" - absolutely to die for. We were served by... More

Tony served us. Unassuming, friendly and proud of his Mile End, for good reason, he made us feel at ease as first-timers in his establishment and helped us through the very interesting menu of South American treats from several countries. The drinks were very nice indeed. I had the Cartel Margarita and my date had the Singapore Sling. As for... More

Went here with a friend of mine who lives in the area. Spent the evening on the patio downing sangria. We ordered the carne asada tacos, calamari, and the short rib tacos. We really enjoyed the patio. Great place to people watch. Warm summer evenings make this city the most vibrant in Canada. These small neighborhood restaurants really add to... More

We met local friends here on Tuesday and this definitely was a bargain! The taco deals are hard to beat, and food was delicious. We live vex the local beer on tap. Would return.

Well we were excited to try out this Mexican place, but nothing about it looks Mexican or feel mexican. Being a small restaurant we expected to get the food fairly fast but that wasnt the case, don't know why. The food had good presentation but it stopped there, it tasted awful, I took the costillas it was one pound of... More

Hello, ,Steven: First of all, we are very sorry Cartel didn't live up to your expectations. There is nothing we can do or say to change that. For potential visitors, please, note that Cartel is definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant. We specialize in what can be best described as Chino-Latino, a place that offers Mexican tacos and chifa dishes... More

Another great night at this fun place! Spacious, beautifully lit, with great music and wonderful people. Very reasonably-priced, interesting food - the special stuffed poblana pepper is one of the best things I've ever eaten!

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
