We found essence by chance and what a good find, strangely they didn't open on a night time only breakfast and lunch but fortunately for us because of a bus trip which was booked in we managed to get a table. I ordered the steak and my wife had the salmon both meals beautifully cooked and great chips. Can't say enough about the staff who were superb always available. Thank you essence for a great meal.

I dined at Firegrill on the advice of co-workers, so expectations were set high. The service was good, although for some reason the female server needed to invade my personal space when discussing the menu. I ordered the 10oz pork baby back ribs and half grilled chicken breast which was paired with seasonal vegetables and creamy coleslaw. Both the ribs and chicken were smothered in BBQ sauce and generally I like the flavour of the meat to stand on its own. For dessert I had the molten lava cake which was good.
Not sure I would return here next time I am in Montreal, as there are so many better restaurants. I didn’t mind the meal, just didn’t meet my expectations.

We got suggestion for this restaurant during our Hop-on Hop Off Tour so we decided to try it. We ordered Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Steak Salad and Baby Back Ribs with baked potato to share. Everything was delicious but Baby Back Ribs was amazingly tender and so yummy that we re-visited it before going back home - just to order it again and not to share it. Really one of the best ever! During our second visit we also ordered also Crème Brûlée Chocolate Dulce de Lèche cake that was decadently delicious. Excellent suggestion by our guide and so glad we went for it.

We ate at the Fire Grill last Saturday, June 1, 2024. I ordered a filet mignon. Instead of being round and thick, as expected, the steak provided was flat, about a half-inch thick and about 5” by 6” in size. It was not a filet mignon. In addition, it was covered in spices, which was not mentioned on the menu, and was blood red even though I had requested medium. Looking back at the menu, I believe that they gave me a Peppercorn Manhattan steak.
I sent it back to get more cooking. It arrived back at the table in about 2 minutes, still bleeding. I sent it back again. Once more, it was returned quickly and not cooked medium. I was unhappy and the server agreed with me that the steak was not what was ordered. He said that he talked to the manager, but we heard nothing more. At this point everyone at the table was about through eating so I ate a very expensive mound of mashed potatoes for dinner.
At about $50 for a steak dinner, I expected at least something edible. The restaurant made no attempt to rectify the situation and the steak was thrown out. If it was the wrong steak, they either should have replaced it with the filet mignon requested or comped the meal that was not eaten.

You can see how inflation has hit the restaurant business here. We arrived without reservations, but were seated quickly (early evening) as the place was almost empty. We had cocktails to start - my wife's Caesar was fine, but I thought my dry martini was on the watery side and overpriced at $17. Maybe it was premium gin, but they could have said. My wife's grilled salmon salad was OK. She said the salmon itself was very good, but the salad was slathered with dressing which rather detracted from the healthiness of the meal. Best ordered with dressing on the side. Mine was the pepper New York steak with the peppercorn sauce. The steak was rare as specified, which was good, but the sauce, previously served generously in a small pot was already poured (very thinly) on the steak. Neither steak nor sauce tasted much of pepper. I had to leave about 15% of the steak as it was too gristly, but the rest was tender. The problem was, it really didn't taste of much. Insufficient aging? Cheaper supplier? I don't know, but it really wasn't worth the price paid. Maybe try The Keg next time.

I rate 3 stars. Would say my main concern is value for your money. We ordered the calamari appetizers 20$. for the price, not many in the plate. but they were very good.
For main dish, we had the Santa Fé grilled chicken (chopped grilled veggies, melted goat cheese, jardinière sauce), comes with a choice of 1 side. we took the coleslaw. 28$ per plate. One plate was about half the size of the other plate (small chicken pieces)... very thin on the toppings, and the chicken was overcooked on the edges (charred)... so could not even eat all of it. The coleslaw was delicious. Like i said, for 28$ they could add some rice, or a few fries to complete the plate, those do not cost a lot to garnish a plate. I've been to Firegrill quite a few times (1st time downtown) many times closer to Côte Vertu. will unfortunately be looking a other places to go eat...

Very disappointed that the Greek Salad I ordered, on a take-out order, did not contain any greens. It was all tomatoes. More tomatoes than I would think most people want in one "salad". I have never ordered a Greek salad that did not contain some type of greens. I really think the restaurant should bring that fact to a customer's attention when they are ordering this "salad". Also, the portion of chicken was very small. For the price it was disappointing and not worth it.

I think it is best to stick to a business lunch or dinner at this restaurant. We arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly seated, but there was confusion between the maitre'd and the wait staff, and we sat about 15 minutes before we flagged down a waiter asking if someone was serving our table. He said he'd take our drinks order, and enter it, and try and figure out who should be serving our table. (the restaurant was about half full). After an impromptu meeting, a wait person was appointed, and the maitre'd apologized for the confusion. We gave our orders, but had to ask the wait person for water, and bread for the table.. I ordered the French Onion Soup as appetizer, and it was fine, but pricey at $12.00. I did like the little touch of sprinkling chopped scallion on top. The NY Strip arrived, and while prepared as ordered, it tasted as flat as it looked on the plate. Overall, pricey for what you get, uninspired.. For less I can get better elsewhere..

The place looks good, high ceilings, waiters are nice, but...your plate is as small as a saucer and won't be changed between courses. The sauce of the first tapas was too spicy so you could not really taste what you were eating. The second was good but served in the same saucer. The third, little hamburgers, were totally uninteresting. The wagu meat was so overcooked that it tasted like McDo.

I’m so sorry to do this! I never 1 star if I can help it. Fire grill is usually a reliable chain, but tonight, it was the grossest food I’ve ever tasted and kept me on the toilet all night! Something has changed post-Covid other than the fact we can’t eat inside.
The ribs had bbq but we’re somehow still dry and flavorless. The popcorn chicken was undercooked and not crispy. The bao buns used the bbq ribs meat (‘nuff said there) and added super mayonnaise-y coleslaw making the bun soggy and gross. Even the fries were off!
Hope they turn it around soon because for almost $100 for our food, we expected the quality we usually receive.

Came here with a party of 5 during New Year's week in Montreal. We were seated right away by a friendly hostess and came face to face with a truly remarkable menu. There were almost too many enticing options to choose from but I defaulted to a filet mignon. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Prices offered strong value and there was something for everybody. Did not get a chance to try a dessert but the options looked great. Overall very satisfied with this restaurant.

We ended up eating twice at this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and we were done with walking by mealtime. Food was excellent and the service staff were friendly and professional. Chicken Cobb salad was delicious as was the beef dip sandwich.

Ate here on our first night visiting Montreal and liked it enough to come back a few days later. Service wax good and steak was done exactly as requested. Overall meal was very tasty in a nice environmental - comfortable and not noisy. Good spot.

It was with great joy finally getting a chance of getting back to Montreal. JP our server was spot on recommended the dishes and paired a nice glass of red wine for me. If your looking for a good steak check this place out.

Pecan cranberry salad with salmon , yummy !
My husband ordered Cobb salad with grilled chicken.
We had enough time to eat before the movie 🎥.
